Hey guys,

I can't believe how far a standard motor can be pushed these days. Back in the 90's, it was awesome to see a 12 second car come from a stock motor with a few tweaks (evo1-2-3/vr4/gsr's/wrx's etc).

These days, massive amounts of power can be produced out of a unopened bottom end motor.

I see consistent 300+kw xr6 turbo's / 170+kw 4g63's with stock turbos / 200+kw sr20 engined cars with stock turbo's and more!

When will this stop?
Will all cars soon become super cars?

Reason I posted this was because initially I was chasing 12's, then 11's, now 10's... thinking about 9's....

Damn human nature and the need to always want more!

it's kind of like sports baz, eg. running, swimming.
they keep getting faster and faster..

It all comes down to pushing boundaries i guess, certain people are willing to explore and push the envelope these days which is unlocking the true poetential of these engines.

Love it and it just keep giving everyone involved in the sport more and more idea which lifts the bar higher and higher

:)

Its good to see engineering getting better and better, and to know there is quality being put into newer cars.
And yes, it is definitely human tendency to keep seeking the ultimate..

I think some of the biggest advancements are from the injection systems used these days. Sure the engines are well engineered, but plenty of previous engines would survive major hp increases if todays tuning ability was available at the time.

and i also think that everyones tuning skills have progressed over the years which allow you to push those boundaries.

i kinda miss those 200kw was awesome power days.

yeah I remember how awesome i thought the 215kw VR/VS Senator with hydratrak was when it came out! it was huge HP from factory haha
how embarrassing

Baz, in all seriousness. The day your car actually does a pass I will seriously eat my hat.

Has it even seen a dragstrip mate? You've been building it for 6 years for pure drag and everytime you get close you rip it apart. Why don't you actually get some numbers off it and THEN decide what to do?

Otherwise toss the whole bloody thing and start with a tubeframe already.

I think you missed the point Barry was making ... -_-

Jeez lorrie, give the guy a break! He has poured tens of thousands of dollars into this car- not sure if you can appreciate that but sometimes it doesn't just all fall into place over night, especially when you are:

a) doing most of the work yourself

b) work full time

c) have a wife

d) have a mortgage

I'm proud of barry for sticking with his VR4- who cares how long it takes, at least he is still representing the mighty Galant!

Hey I'm proud of him too.

I damn near died when I saw the power figures it put out... but then he pulled it all apart again? Did my head in :(

I've been waiting to see that car GO and I mean -really- GO for well, years. I think we could run a poll on that.

But yes, barry's original post stands as a good point. There are plenty of hi-po cars with stock internals these days.

Dont worry Baz, 6 years is good! Mine took me 9!! lol :)
Its not the time it takes to build a great car, its the attention to detail and quality :)

11s actually, a mate of mine had an auto XR6 Turbo, only thing he did was a flashtune and he ran an 11.9

And hasn't an Evo X ran a 10.7 with factory insides (many bolt ons)...
And the Haltech GTR got down to and 11.1 as it left the factory (with the only mod being the haltech ecu)

Anything can go fast with the right people.

Remember those pair of GSRs than ran 11s many years back, both cars had 100% stock engines. One even had a stock ECU+microfueller..

What was pump fuel like 10 years ago? What was the highest octane available compared to today?
