As above, Make sure the taper is locked before doing it. Bash it upwards with a mallet or something to lock it in place. Unless the thread is stuffed and it won't turn anymore (nut)
 
hmmm...thanks for the advice troy and baz, i'll give it a go, i might get my jack under it and jack it up, that should get the taper seated into the hub correctly.

That trick has worked for me before. A little pressure is usually enough and make sure the ball joint taper and the hub are clean and not greasy.
 
front end is reassembled. thanks Mo for your help with that. now i just have to swap the rear struts, oil change and a wheel alignment.
 
should have gave up watching SOO and went last night was pretty quiet from what dave said on boostloosers
 
i'm at mexican on wednesday for mum's birthday, so can't go then...will have to be when i get back from sydney :(
