Hi all,

As most of you are probably aware, I have my 4G63 powered Sonata on the streets, and it packs a mean punch....

Just been doing some more work on her, and I have come to the realisation that she aint going to take as much power as she is for much longer... I have spent about 15-20k just on the engine, and it is going to waste with the driveline it is running ...

My option are

1) Update the whole driveline, and look at transplanting either Evo or VR4 parts.
2) Stop throwing away money, and try and find an Evo 3 with a blown motor and transfer parts to it.

I really want to look at option 2. what I need to know is does anyone know of an Evo 3 that is in need of a new heart, and the expected cost?

Or should I just look at trying to import one for myself ... ??? I am really stuck on this guys, so any help you can provide is appreciated.

I will end with .... I don't exactly have the cash up front ... But I know I could easily get a loan (I just choose not to), but it usually doesn't take me too long to build up the cash if I find something I want .... I work hard for my splurges ...

You wont be able to road register it if you bring one in... E1-4's cannot be road registered unless you bring one in on a personal import. but in saying that i dont think that you have been living in japan for over 12 months

these are just rough off the top of my head prices but it will give you a little bit of a vision...

11k for an unregisterable E3...

25k for the real deal that is able to be registered within Australia...

15k if you find yourself an absolute pig of an evo...

I had seen some ads for dealers that help you import cars (I think in hot 4's and stuff like that)...

Would it be best to go through a broker like that and have the keep an eye on the Jap market, or would I have problems registering it .. ???

you could even look at at an AUS spec GSR thats been shagged. Not really all that much difference between an evo.

all youd really need is to buy a full LSD set for the GSR drivetrain, and youd be set. (and maybe some chassis stiffening parts) :p

can you use normal GL bodies??? coz there is a front cut and a rear cut on ebay that should have everything u need?? :D

u can't import an evo 1 - 3 from overseas as register it for road use.
as dan said your best bet would be to purchase a fairly cheap gsr and transfer everything to that..

evo 1 - 3 are hard to come by and when they do you'll be paying top dollar for them, plus more then likely they will have a running engine aswell..

go the gsr i say!..

Dude, buy my evo3! I recieved import approval for it today and if I can get it on the next ship it will be in Australia on December 2nd. Clutch replaced and rear diff reconditioned this this year, perfect  Take out the motor and if you don't want to use it for spares then it should bring a bit of cash if you sell it. Look on this forum for the black evo3. :smt114

yeah but why? seriously why?

Exactly ... I have the problem where I want to maximise my return. Having a great engine in a 1 of a kind car is great, but resale and value is next to nothing... I want to do it right and get the real thing.

Have thought about it, but yeah, as above, I really want to make sure it is a real evo ... I don't mind if I have to wait to save or get a loan, but yeah, I really want the real thing ...

Chris Meek has a car that will be perfect for you. Come around and check it out. The contact details are on the web site. www.meekautomotive.com.au

Hmmm ... Sounds good ... Can you PM me with a little more info ... Just want to make sure that I am not wasting his time ... I would hate to get the reputation as a guy who just pisses in peoples pocket ...

Have just found a GSR ... That a friend of mine has picked up ... No engine but all running gear.. Has been engineered with wheels and previous engine mods, but was the 1.8lt turbo .. Has damage to the lower control arm, and one of the front guards...

It is painted a pearl blue, but is meant to be in overall good condition ... Mate will give it to me at cost price as he has only had it for a couple of days and was going to turn it into a rally car ... I know it is not an Evo, but we will see how we go ... I will be heading out to check it out next week ... Wanted to go out there this Saturday, but he is going to be away at a rally ... :(

It also has an Evo III body kit on it, and I think he said a c/f bonnet ... But not sure if it were c/f or just the vented bonnet ... I am not really a big fan of making it look like an Evo III when it is not, but I guess as long as I don't claim it to be one then it should be OK ...

I think it is going to need a re-spray so it really depends on the overall condition ... Will let you know more as I find more ... I am still looking for the perfect car tho ...

My only question is will the 2.0l bolt straight in ??? I have seen a few 1.8-2.0 conversions, but not sure how easy it is ....

*********** UPDATE ***************

Well all, I am the proud owner of a 1995 GSR ... Will update you all with pics later...

So I now feel more like part of the family, as I will fully be a Mitsubishi ... :D

Need to get a front bar, and Evo 3 skirts ... The ones on the car were smashed up a little ... :smt022

Thanks guys ..

Will check em out....

I have also put in a bid of some on ebay .. Yes, I know, quality is usually crap ... But it is the whole kit, so if I get it for cheap I should be right...
