Yeah its a stupid idea because it could be exploited. I'd say if there are a number of complaints for the same vehicle by different parties it would be just cause for the authorities to investigate.

Yeh it weill never work, can you imagine them coming to our door and asking for the keys and carrying on? i dont think to many guys will have a part in that, let it be law or not, for some people there cars is either there pride and joy or a hobby they get in2, so not everyone will comply.... especially me, i will hide every day at a different persons house and then sign it over to my family member and tell the cops i got nothing...

If this were in WA id drive over to a particular dealership in ozzy park that sells JAGS, FERRARIS AND LAMBO'S and write some plates down.

I've been "done" by this.... all they have to do is phone a number (canberra connect) and report the car's rego plate, time/date and what they think is wrong.

You (the owner of the car) then get a letter in the mail saying "blah blah blah....A memebr of the general public has reported your car as been unsafe/unroadworthy...you are required to present you vehicle to dickson vehicle inspection station".

Disckon is the ACT's only major inspection station and is near impossible to pass a modified car through (even with engineers report).

They also do the same thing for so called "hoon's" and you get a nice vist from the police to explain your actions.

Thats fucked, ok so just say i got a letter today saying that my car with rego ***-*** was spotted on the M4 at 10:05am on 23/06/09 (for example), and is required for an inspection.

Well first of all can't you turn around and dispute it if you weren't in the place of question or if the car was off the road for repairs etc etc

Sounds like someone down at the Bullshit Castle (parlament house) is just trying to grab some favourable opinion polls, its a stupid piece of legislation that should be thrown out.

Hehe, one quick way to fix such a thing is to report every stock car you see, I consider it a service... much the same with the dob a hoon.

Unless the car leaks oil and blows oil smoke everywhere, there is no grounds to be reprimanded on the hearsay of some civilian with no credentials or credible background.

The whole thing is just a load of shit aimed at raising revenue probably because the goverment doesnt have the legal provision to impose taxes on motoring at the moment, so they will do it other ways.

I could be wrong and I most likely am but I am wondering if its mainly targeted at what some of the aboriginal folk who live up there drive. I know when I was living up north some of the clapped out cars they were driving looked down right dangerous.
