Just on my way to a job this morning found it hard to shift in and out of any gears, did the job and on my way home it became impossible to shift in or out of any gears, had to stop turn off the car change to 3rd and take off in third, went to the nearest open mechanic and he checked it out, topped up the fluid ( wasn't below min it was inbetween) he was the only one there and was busy so said bring it back Monday, anyway the fluid fixed it for 500 meters then it got hard to shift and another 500 meters it was impossible again so to get home I had to pull onto the side of the road turn off the car, change to 5th and then take off ( struggled like a boss but eventually got going) I haven't checked the fluid again yet because it's pouring rain -_- also when I slowed down if I put the clutch in and breaked it would stall like the clutch was out and if I didn't break it would creep forwards....

Wtf could be the problem, I've never had any issues with my clutch/ gearbox before and I've had the car for a year or so, oh and it's a 1995 gsr aus spec

Please help

Thanks everyone :)

Adjust the clutch pedal from under dash. Nice and dry :) see if it gives it more throw. Otherwise bleed the system as there is likely air in there.

Then again my cb has a leak and I have to top it up every week. Even when it runs bone dry it still shifts fine. Go figure.

I had a similar problem a few days ago, turned out my clutch master was leaking on the inside firewall, So im going to order one from meek on monday and hopefully that will fix it for me. if your level is dropping i'd say you have a similar issue.

Car was at the mechanic today, they tested the master by clamping the line and pumping the clutch to find it ha enough pressure to still push fluid through, they checked for leaks out of the master cylinder in and out of the cabin, and the level hasn't gone down since the weekend so he has put it down to the slave cylinder and has ordered one to be fitted tomorrow, hopefully this solves the problem, if it doesn't what else could be wrong?

Same thing happened to me on Sunday. I had a spare new clutch cylinder so I replaced it- car still can't get into gear. I adjust the clutch pedal, but no go. I assuming it's the pressure plate.

Lan91-did u find out what was the problem with ur car?

I just replaced the clutch master (genuine) , clutch line ( goodrigde) and clutch slave ( genuine ) in my other evo 2 , and its really brought the clutch back to life, it was slippiing bad and wouldnt rev over 4k

if there is any air in the system , it will make it very hard to shift

also make sure you have got pleanty of gearbox fluid in there, as it will also get very hard to shift if the fluid level is low

if your adjusting the pedal , its a quick fix but the problem will come back

Travis- I recently did my clutch line (Goodridge), did the clutch cylinder on weekend. Will be putting in a new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel and clutch slave(brought this of u awhile ago) this weekend. Hope it will fix my problem.

I spoke to the mechanic today and he said he's swapped the slave over and bled the system, this got it working 100% better but if left idling the problem returns so he said take it and try it and see how it goes, so I'll take it and try it and see what happens, I said if it happens again I'll replace the master because it would be as old as the car so wouldn't hurt and see what happens but I havnt picked it up yet as I didn't have time so before I pick it up I'll get him to check the gearbox fluid( would it be a good idea to change the fluid?), I will post back when I speak to him tomorrow and let you know what's going on :)

Yea, mine had no symptoms of it slipping but was more like when you push the pedal it wasn't pushing the clutch plate away so it would idle low or stall when the clutch was in and made it impossible to shift into gears with the engine running, he checked the master wasn't leaking as suggested above but I have also asked him today to check under the dash for leaks when he can so it may be that but the level hasn't dropped and he said I was putting good pressure on the fluid as it was pushing it past his clamp, he bled it twice after he fitted the slave to make sure there was no air so that shouldn't be the problem either, however while I had to drive it in that state to get it to him I could smell the clutch quite strongly when I would come to a stop so maybe I have worn it to much and it is now not allowing it to shift properly due to that? Anyway I'll let you guys know what's going on tomorrow, I would rather have him fix it 100% before I take it incase I do more damage but he is pretty busy and may have it there for to long if I just let him do that -_-
The joys of modified cars haha

How much were the genuine items?

I reckon this could be some of my issues as I am running CC Lancer parts in the EVO.

a new master is $290.00
a rebuild kit is $72.95 ( metal insert ) ( just had a price drop from $125 )

a new slave is $137.20 (just had a price drop from $239 )
a rebuild kit is $33.20

all prices inc GST

the goodrige line was about $45 delivered from ebay UK , for my first evo 2 it eas $78 but along time ago

Have you fixed ur problem? Same shit happened to me, found out there was a crack in the clutch plate and one of the torsion springs broke out and Fkd up my whole clutch it was rubbing on the pressure plate, the problem ur having sounds like u just have air in the system if ur fluid is going down obviously there's a leak but at the same time when you depress the clutch air comes back in, have you tried bleeding it ur self?

Yea, I forgot to update, I had the clutch replaced with a full kit, fitted a new master and slave and now it is all working, the problem was to do with the clutch fork but as the motor and box had to come out I opted for a new kit as it was like 8 years old or something, it's all sweet now and I'm happy again :)
