that is about as close as i could get mine when i did it... spent a couple of hrs playing and trying to get it better without any luck

yep your a tooth out on both cams,a trick i do is i cable tie the belt to one timing gear and when i get the other one in the right place i cable tie it as well.then i can time the rest of the motor.just remember that you should be able to put a straight edge across middle of the cam bolts and those timing marks.

surprisingly, with the timing set as above, the turbo spooled alot faster, it had bugger all vacum at idle which created some issues with the brakes but drove quite well.

back to lazy boost, even with a TD04 :(

yep, idles better now, found the PCV valve was shagged today as well.

still cant get the idle below 1500rpm when its in netural/park though, its almost like there is a vac leak after the TB.

Guys, when you put the timing belt on you turn them so both dowel pins face upwards, then align both cam gear markers together with 2 x 17mm spanners whilst you're putting the timing belt on. To hold the belt onto the cam gear teeth use a couple of rounded edge bulldog clips. When done gently release the 2 x spanners and the timing marks will ALWAYS slightly misalign to eachother by about half a tooth. That's normal.
I checked the link earlier in the post and thats right, make sure the bottom marks are also aligned in their respective positions too.

^^This man knows!
Almost the same as Baz finding out about the tooth out on Evo8 ADJ cam gears on a VR4 as Josh found out on his......

yeah some rvr models use a cam trigger and a crank trigger also. set timing rate also i beleave. would be a great setup to use on a rwd seen the normal cas wouldnt be stuck right at the back.

My gears are never misaligned by more than about 1/4 of a tooth max when I do them though Rob? I always pretension the exhaust gear by 1 to 2 teeth when I put the belt on and when it tensions up it brings them into line perfectly.
I also slide a straight edge between the gears so it sits on the head, the bottom of it should then line up with both cam gear marks.

Ditto, the other check I use is to slide a 3mm drill bit in the recess in the gear to make sure it lines up with the top of the head.

1/4 tooth or 1/2 tooth no biggy as they do misalign slightly when you let go of the spanners when the belt is on. It also depends on what cams and camgears you have too by the way! lol
