I want to run an external oil cooler from my VR4 block and also install the senders for my oil temp and pressure gauges. At the moment I have no sandwich plate between my block and oil filter so am looking for one which will allow me to run the cooler and senders without having to drill, tap or braze new fittings.

Does anybody know if this sort of sandwich plate even exists (probably a stoo-pid question but you never know!) or are they using one which meets these functions and where I could get one?

Cheers

Isn't there extra ports on the oil filter housing you can tap into?
I'm pretty sure I saw a few empty ports just plugged up last time it was on the hoist? :?

I have an air-cooled filter housing on mine and it has 2 ports on it that can be used for oil temp and oil pressure.
I got mine from JNZ tuning in the states.

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

GSRSOL and I each got a set of billet oil filter relocation kits from US EBay for somethng like $140 delivered from memory. They are awesome and great quality and have 2 tapped fittings on the oil filter housing you can use (see pic below) :) You have to make the bits in between yourself with pushlock fittings or so as the hoses some kits provide you with a too frikken long and not worth paying the extra money for as you wont use the hoses. I reckon get this one: CLICK HERE . One of the 2 x gold coloured adapters will thread onto our Mitsubishi factory oil filter mount

Hey guys - thanks for the info posted sofar.

Rob - that kit definitely looks the goods and I'll look further into it. It's a bit unclear from your pic though, have you used the adapter from the e-bay pic that bolts to the factory oil filter mount? Your pic seems to have a gold cylinder thing in front of where the hoses are connected on the engine side.

Yeah I used the sandwich plate from the kit to bolt onto the existing oil filter mount. Then I used 2 x 90 degree elbows to make a 180 degree backwards to face the way the pic was taken. Both those hoses are covered in silver heat proof sleeving and go to the remote oil filter mount pictured (you can see the silver sleeving in the pic).

The other 2 hoses are for the factory oil cooler, nothing to do with the remote oil relocation system. The gold thing you are referring to at the front of the housing is a factory VR4 fitting.

Here's another pic. I'll take one of the actual sandwich plate and fittings if you want?

And for the 2 fittings labelled 'to oil cooler' as in the pic above, I used the fittings as per pic below :) One of the positives of spending so long building the car is there's plenty of time to nut out each mod

Is there any particular advantage to moving the oil filter?

yup, you can run a better flowing turbo dump pipe and/or larger turbo/exhaust housing.

i also prefer the filter pointing down as its not so messy to change :)

Are you kidding?!?!?

I change oil filters all day and I can tell you the best (least messy) is one that is screwed on sideways! When it is facing down, when you unscrew it oil pisses out over the sides and drips off everywhere and then when you unscrew it it is full of oil that spills out over your hand and everywhere when you are removing it whereas with it on the side you can unscrew it a bit and the oil runs out the bottom side and you can then unscrew the filter the rest of the way without getting your hands covered in oil and tilt it away from you and not make a mess. I'd love to kno your secret!

I think we've all learnt that you dont remove an oil filter without having an oil pan underneath it wherever the hell it is  Its worse on a 4G93 as the shit drips down the side of the block, down the sump, on the dump pipe, onto the aircon compressor and crap because you dont have much room to work with.

George. I initially was going to use braided hose as well but the -10AN braided line doesnt like to bend too much and I didnt want to spend big $$ to find out I couldnt get the bastard to bend how I wanted it too lol. So in the end I went with the hi-temp oil hose and pushlock fittings instead which should handle the elements and stone chips better than braided line sitting so low to the ground. At the end of the day it was actually just as expensive going the push-lock way :(

Not showing in the first pic of parts only are the 2 x extra 90' bends I used straight out of the Sandwich plate. I had the same concerns as you with using just 2 x 180's so went 4 x 90' instead.

The 2 x connections you see in the 2nd pic are the extra 90' bends I'm talking about to make up 4 x 90' at the sandwich plate (dont worry I tidied up the heat sleeve with scissors and a clamp since the photo was taken lol )

The 3rd pic shows the rest of the setup
* 120' and a 150' angle coming out of the oil filter mount
* 2 x 90' attached to the oil cooler
* 2 x straights coming out of the oil pump

The 4th pic shows the 2 x M16x1.5 male to -10AN thread connections that screw into the oil pump so you can bolt the straights onto. Oh dont forget if you buy them from Earls get 2 x Earls stat-o-seal washers to use there as well (alternatively you can use a dowty seal or crush washer instead) :)
