thanks for the 'advice', I had everything except the head gasket replaced because apc said 'nar it'll be fine'. morons, i even told them to do it but they insisted it wasn't neccassary. APC are overpriced, rude cnts who think they know it all, so they do their best to get your car in and out of...

wooo, okay, bought an alloy radiator, car is back together with a metal head gasket, and now its just waiting for the radiator to be put back on :D *notices lots of other parts* hmmmmm 8)

oh crap i totally didn't even think about this!!! I'm calling my mechanic today. edit: turns out it wasn't actually my head gasket. I replaced it anyway. Nice metal one in there now! however, my radiator was leaking so I picked up a nice new thick ass one.
