dammit after getting a few runs in at the heathcote test and tune last sunday my car is dead......soooooooooo i'm thinking it may be 4g63 time .. any idea how much this is gonna cost?

word of advice? don't do it. just go forged 93. mine ended up costing 10k, including a half cut, retune, rewiring of aftermarket ecu, new clutch, new everything basically. I just blew my head gasket after 8000k's as well. :\

if i put 10k into a rebuild i'd have a monster. wait, add another 2.5k from my head gasket.

Word of advice- have the head gasket replaced while your doing the conversion, and if you can, buy an engine that you know the history of, and search this site for alot of good info, so you dont end up doing/paying for stuff that you dont need.

Fish, who did your tuning? Did you find out why the head gasket decided to shit itself? How much boost were you running?

$10k for an engine conversion,
$2.5k for a head gasket
Fuck I wish I was your mechanic.

As Clutz said, who did your tuning?

lol you saw how my car went at heathcote.. rebuild ur 93t with strong internals.. you wont look bak... ;)

buying a used '4g63t' with 'low' km's mean shit.. it means that its more prone to failure sooner rather then later.. that is fact!!!! 4G93t's once you build them tough they are nice :)

if you need a hand building it let me know... i know what parts are needed and so forth..

im not bias 'b' ed :p hahaha..

its fact.. that buying a used motor is playing with fire.. if you up the boost you have no idea what it will do or how many GENUINE km's it has.. i dont believe all the crap that cuts come in with genuine 80km on them... seriously!!!!

anyways either way.. whatever you buy.. strip it down and check it to see if its still good internally.. then replace such things as water pump/timing belt/balance belt and head gasket.. would b wise to probably do arp head studs while you have it apart!!!

Jon

Rob Barac has an E1 motor (less turbo and manifold, injectors/fuel rail and afm) for sale with flywheel, clutch, compute rand loom for $800 at the moment. Pretty good price - buy that, throw the forged internals at it rather than the '93, done :D

Stick with the 93t, and dont be a GSR with another 2ltr conversion.

*Please send abuse via pm*

hahahahahahah

Fuck the PM, I'll post my abuse right here

Nah, things have come along way with the 1.8 in the last few years, and with rods and pistons readily available for them now, they're not a bad choice.

What kind of work is being done to seal the headgaskets on them these days? I always remember problems caused by the lack of deck area between the cylinders on the '93?

thanks guys.. the actual installation isn't gonna be a problem for me it's just hidden costs and what not..... how much would i be lookin at to work a 93??

thanks for the 'advice', I had everything except the head gasket replaced because apc said 'nar it'll be fine'. morons, i even told them to do it but they insisted it wasn't neccassary. APC are overpriced, rude cnts who think they know it all, so they do their best to get your car in and out of their workshop. not taking it back there again.

reason it cost so much is because I had my ecu rewired, new clutch, tune, meek intercooler kit, new bushes all round, etc. lots more tho. wasn't a total rip, just a little expensive. (oh forgot to mention, subtract $1400 from parts i sold from my half cut)

My guess of 2.5k for my head gasket was an estimate. head machined, metal head gasket, alloy radiator, retune, silicone hoses for radiator and all the little fiddly bits.

Ps, i had checked out the engine, and it looked perfectly fine. I had details of the cars past history too, whether its true or not is another story, but everything looked consistant. numbers matched up, markings on the car all seemed to be right.

thanks for the advice.
