Hey guys,
I'm just looking at dump pipes at the moment and they all have the bung for an O2 sensor on them.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when running an aftermarket ECU with a MAP sensor, the 02 sensor is not used and can be removed?
Are there plugs available to fill the hole in the downpipe?
Thanks,
Mat :)

u can use an o2 on your wolf matt... and get it tuned so it runs closed loop when cruising and map when wot

if not, u can find bungs no probs..

WOT = wide open throttle.

Although in the sentence where it is used you should read "open loop" ie you have 'tripped' the neccessary conditions whereby ecu moves from auto adjusting (closed loop) to ignoring O2 input (open loop).

It doesn't have to happen at WOT. If rpm > 4000 then it will also goto open loop.
Thats with a stock ecu though.... i got no idea what happens with a wolf. :?
bazeng will know....

baz,
to run closed loop, does that mean you require the air flow meter?
you reckon pete would have tuned my car like that? i'm pretty certain my o2 sensor is shot.

pete would have just left it there and not used it..

he doesn't really like closed loop
he prefers open loop

i asked somebody that and they said u dont need an AFM...
i was under the impression that you did...

any pro ecu dudes out there who could answer this?

Is this specifically in regard to a Wolf - if so ?? I have little experience with these.

But with my ecu and others i have worked on the method of air flow calculation (MAF/MAP) doesn't affect closed/open loop. Just use the MAP sensor and it will run closed loop as long it is running within the constraints you set.

Running closed loop while tuning is of little consequence anyway because a good tune will run the correct AFR's always - the narrowband o2 sensor is really only there to adjust for fuel economy while cruising (<2500RPM) as it can only read between ~14.0 - 15.5 AFR. This is why it runs open loop elsewhere.

A wideband o2 sensor can be used to run closed loop all the time - but since they are expensive ($450+) and they don't last nearly as long as a OEM narrowband I wouldn't recommend using this method. Especially with a non adaptive ECU such as a wolf. Besides - like i said above if it is tuned properly it will always run perfectly open loop anyways.

The o2 sensor boss can be filled with a toyota sump plug - or the like. I just got mine from the local exhaust shop - same with the o2 boss so i can run my wideband.

Hope this helps - Jez
