Hey guys,

This is the one area that has me stumped. I've got 17's on the GSR now, but looking at going 18's once the car has been painted. It's getting all Geniune Evo3 Panels, so will have the wider guards.

I'm trying to work out with an 18x7.5 rim, what tyre profile and offset would be needed for no scrubbing/clearance issues. First hand experiences would be helpful...

As I said above, this is the one area I have trouble with..

Thanks in advance. Once the rims are on, members ride gets done!

Bryce

yeah its got the EVO3 Fenders going on.

Aftermarket Coilover suspension.

So first hand exp say 18x7.5+42 works fine. So last question (excuse my stupidity) but how does the offset work exactly. What sort of range offset should I be looking at for that type of rim.

Thanks guys, just don't understand the offset crap.

On coilovers or std springs?I thought you could go out to +20 or so. Say you have +32 on gsr fenders, evos have what 25mm flare? So you should get +10 on ok...Only thing is wider rims will mess that measurement up
That's with coil overs and can slide the tip off my finger between the tyre and rear trailing arm

Lol. Well Tempe's rims were listed wrong. 5 studs in the 4 stud section. So still hunting for a set of rims. So 86 your saying 18x7.5+42 is no issues? what about +45 as most seem to be that...
And how far out the guards are they?

Cheers.

I had 18 x 7.5 + 42 with 215/35/ 18 +42 I had to do the rear bar tab mod and shave a bit of the inner guards on the rear.
It was a shithouse ride but, with those profile tyres.

Yeh not sure about +45 that will bring it 3mm closer to the guard but you can get the guards rolled and if worse case pumped

86PSI,
Just went through your members rides. Looks sweet. Suprised i haven't seen the car around...

You said it's rough around corners on those rims? What exactly do you mean by that?

Found a bunch of nice rims over in WA to order, but once again the offset issue. Might have to settle for 17's....

wrong mate. +45 would move the rim 3mm closer to rear trailing arm than a +42 and prob rub. increasing the positive offset will tuck the wheel further in and reducing it will bring it out. if you want 18" go for 18x7.5 p42 with a 215x35x18 tyre as mentioned above. this is as narrow as you can go. do the rear tab mod and if your cars not too low you should be okay. then have fun with a shit ride and a car that tram lines all over the place. tyre guys call it over wheeling a car and imo a 17 is really as big as you should go on these cars if you want it to handle nice. also youll be able to squeeze wider rims and tyres on and give it some stance if you want. i have two sets currently with tyres that both fit 17x7 p38 with 205 40 17 and 17x8 p35 with 215s. the later looking phat az but are going to a mate for his s13. coilovers have however helped with clearance issues

What he said. The 215/35/18 I had were a rough harsh shit ride...you felt every hole rut and line in the road. I have now changed to an Evo 5 wheel 17x 7.5 with 215/40/17...I am yet to drive it but im sure it will be much better and handle 1000 times better.

I'm with the other guys Bryce, I reckon a 17" is as big as you would want to go on our cars, both for aesthetics and handling. 18"s just look tooooo "cartoon-ish" IMO and if it rides like crap then that's just another reason to avoid them.

I've got EVO6 rims on mine with a 205/40/17 tyre and I think the look really good and suit the car. Handles perfectly too, even though more sidewall would be nice!

I reckon our cars (cc's) look better with smaller rims + phatter tyre combo.

A perfect look would be something along the lines of 16x8+20, with phat tyres and camber!!

Each to their own....
Personally i think you spoil the driving experience by doing things like that.

I run 17's on my GSR..

but I do have a set of 18x7.5 +40 215/35/18 (not the wheels below) its a bit of a ruff ride but meh... In my younger days i bounced around in geminis with chopped springs on bump stops so low profile tyres still feel pretty good to me.. LoL...

The 18's don't rub, scrub nothing while general driving but my rear guards are rolled and I'm not stupid low either... Fronts do scub at full lock and I never have anyone in the rear...

Either way I think 17"s are the go on GSR/EVO123's. Although I reckon my old daily GLXI looked sweet with 18".. I don't think I ever heard that thing scrub...

My old daily

I bet they were a pain in the arse to keep clean.

18s look cool on these cars but aren't practical if you want to drive it hard.

Ive just gotten rid of my 18s cause it handled like shit with them on it.
I call it under tyred.

Ive got some later model Evo Enkies now with 215 / 40 / 17 tyres and cant wait to test it out once my engine goes back in.
