Save your money on the throttle body, the late model ones easily can handle 500+Hp, the 60mm ones can handle considerably more. I still have a 60mm on mine with 2.5" piping and I put down over 1000awhp. Yeah, I could benefit from a bigger one on my application, but I am trying to simply state that it is unnecessary in your setup. 2" or 2.25" IC pipes will easily do the job with an efficient front mount intercooler. I would look for a genuine Mitsubishi Evo 3 td05 16g, not an eBay turbo. A walbro 255hp pump, 550-680cc injectors, and either a flashable ECU, DSMLink v3 with speed density or a simple Apex'I super AFC will be fine. Stock intake manifold is fine, do a nice intake and filter setup, and maybe a set of Kelford 264/272's. Also, change out the fuel feed line and filter setup to -6an feed either from stock filter with banjo fittings removed and straight -6an to rail or aftermarket fuel filter with -6an to rail. If possible, get a better AFPR and sleeve a -6an return onto the stock return hard line. This stuff with a relatively unrestrictive 2.5" exhaust and you should be good for up to 400hp with the proper fuel. If you need transmission modification or clutch recommendations let me know.

As well Tim (brisvr4) is good people and capable of doing the transmission work.
 
that awesome dude thats all my questions answered pretty much!! Thats pretty much the road im going down anyways. I dont want something ridiculous cause the wife will be driving it and i dont want her hurting herself.
But thanks again for the info, it's all a really big help guys. Im not new to turbo setups by any means but i want this engine to be as efficient as possible and produce the most power with a few bolt on upgrades. Pretty excited to get this thing striped ad rebuilt :)
 
yea nice that worked a treat. The number on the turbo is 49189-02600. It's a TD04HL-15T-6.0 according to those numbers but feel free to correct me.
From wat ive read the TD04HL isnt a too bad of a turbo. I mite end up sticking with it until i can afford a genuine TD05-16G and stay away from these KLS turbos that are everywhere.

TD04HL specs:
Exducer(in.): 1.80
Inducer(in.): 2.05

Trim: 77
 
I have parts of a tdo4hl from an engine I acquired a few years ago, I pulled it apart and compared it to my bastard 20g (big16g with 20g wheel machined to fit)

It will give you an indication of what you can bolt on as an upgrade. Wanna see the difference? No? Oh well, that's a shame, I'll just slip on my gimp suit and crawl back into the fridge.

Just kidding, I'm not going into the fridge! Oh, and here are the compare pics

holy sh*t. lol. Thats a huge difference! i dont think ill be going that big cause i want the thing to be drivable for the wife. lol. I think the 16g will be plenty big enough for what i want, but yea it's amazing how big the difference is.
 
also Benzo4GT i see your from hervey bay?! i was there just before xmas and staying in the peppers resort and i love it up there. Gonna retire up there with my RVR. lol.

KLS Turbos are a bush (wet float) bearing. In my opinion they don't quite cut the cheese as quick.
so other than that they arent a bad turbo for the price??

A TD05 ex. mani. will be bigger than the turbo opening of the turbo and I'm not sure if the turbo inlet could be safely ported enough to warrant the change over.

The manifold that comes with a tdo4 is a t25 size outlet, so around 50mm not including seal ring, 47mm with ring. The tdo5 is around 60mm not including seal ring.

Here are some pics that show the differences in the manifolds. I have ported an Evo 3 and an SSG tdo4 mani. There is a std ssg as well.

yea thats what i thought, but the bolt holes are the same?? ive found a stainless manifold online thats a pretty good price but it's for a TD05. As im not gettin a TD05 straight away i thought i could buy this and just get the turbo to fit. I was thinking along the lines of an adapter plate that has a 60-50mm tapered hold to accommodate the TD04 for now and then just get rid of the plate when i buy the TD05. This doable?

It will bolt on.
I would suggest that you port your turbo exhaust housing tapered just to match manifold size so the exhaust gasses don't hit it's ring edge.
 
I'm not gonna say KLS turbos are good or bad cause I don't know, all i know is manufacturers that make wet floats are usually based in china and terrible products.

yea thats what i thought i could do with it to make it all work. Mite pull the engine out this weekend and get it all started, pretty excited. lol
 
yea i love working on cars always have. Just dont always have the cash to do so. But this will be a good project to do knowing how much of a monster i have with the 4G63 !!!
Im very OCD with engine bays so i think a lot of time will be spent making it look pretty under the hood also :)
