1995 RVR sports gear rebuild questions.

Help Support 4GTuner:

Mmmm, goodies. That time when everything is new and clean.

Are you going to go straight to a tdo5 before you put it all back in? In which case get the new ex mani, there have been reports of the welds cracking on those SS ones though, but I know some that haven't. I've gone with a ported

stock evo 3 to keep the stock look.

Do you have an eprom ecu? If you do, get it socketed, it's good for a drop in programed chip, I think some on the forum have had theirs done by Meek, then If you need to in the future you can get ecmlink to handle future upgrades

If you're coming along on sat I can chat to you about a mild head port job as well, it really doesn't take much to clean up the cast lines and do a bit of bowl and transition work, I would recommend a pro to cut the seats if they need

doing and a surface job.

You'll find using what you have and giving it a bit of love and a port/cleanup will make a difference, then you can put the $ into machining which is not an area you want to skimp on.

There is a bit to think about when doing a rebuild, but it's all about balance and doing it right.

I would love to go all out right now but unfortunately i cant as the wife just got out of hospital and got some hospital bills to pay.
So no TD05 just yet but im gonna do a gasket rebuild, front mount, new clutch, get the gearbox sorted, new S/S turbo manifold and new intake. Im gonna get the fuel system upgraded and have everything ready for when i do get my TD05 so all i have to do is bolt it on and get it tuned.
As far as ECU im gonna get a evo 6 or 7 ecu and give it to vr401 to work his magic :)

Whats happening saturday? im meant to be looking at houses which is the other thing why i cant go all out on the car just yet.

lol yea, if i was allowed to spend the money i would buy everything now!!! but this god damn house thing is putting a dent in that plan.

Just had a read, wont b able to make unfortunately. I really want the car done and ready for the next meet thou, would be good to ask some questions about RVR's in general. The wife is now telling me that she's excited the car is getting back on the road so we can go camping in it.........cant wait to roll into a camp ground with a front mount and a BOV sneezing at campers. lol. That is definitely going to be interesting and wasnt quite the route the car was planned for.

well to save a bit of coin on doing a full turbo upgrade im going to do a compressor upgrade to a TD04-19T from my 15T. From what ive read it's going to make a good upgrade for not alot of cash.

Also got this in the mail today, should help a lot with my build :)

I have that book as well, there are some nice pointers in it, what I got out of it is how little you need to do to a 4g to get good power gains. Everything in balance

Mate, the fuel pump sits under a panel, sort of in front of and below drivers side rear seat. Floor, that is, of course.
Most go for warbro 255 pump as an upgrade bro.
Cheers

Yea thats what i was going to go for. I just had the pump here so thought i would use it. I was going to use it in my AW11 MR2 but it's an in tank pump and VL is not.
We put an offer on a house today so the RVR project may have to wait :( but i guess owning a first house is a good t hing :)

I brought the book on ebay for $32 shipped to my door. But i just found this one for $29.60 free shipping! Ripped off. lol

Also i have a Greddy Emanage Blue piggy back ECU here. Is it worth hooking it up to the RVR?? Ive heard mixed reviews about them and they can be a bitch to tune? Thoughts?

That book is a joke, you are better off reading www.vfaq.com and the tech forums at DSMLink and DSMtuners and using a Chilton service manual and Mitsubishi factory service manual. Also road race engineering and Magnus motorsports old tech articles are useful.
