Help Support 4GTuner:

I reckon it is.
It makes it hard (especially for new members ) to learn or get the correct information, if things are posted which aren't correct or are a guess or way off.

The ecu pinout is much the same bmgtz. There is sfa interconnects on the auto. The tcu handles it all. I think the tcu gets a speed reading, tps and sends back park/neutral shifter position (that we run as nlts clutch switch on)

can you get this ecmlite in nz? if i was to stick with the td04 and just do intercooler, exhaust and the usual is there any point in using the evo afm i bought and evo injectors with the ecmlite?

Nah I don't know of anyone in NZ who fits/supports ECMLink/ECMLite, would be more of a DIY thing. Sticking with the TD04 and a mild boost increase won't stress the fuel system too much, the Evo AFM/ECU/Injectors thing only really required with a TD05H upgrade - i'd just do the fuel pump just for piece of mind, perhaps find someone with a wideband oxy sensor (or just go to a dyno day somewhere) to make sure you're not leaning out.

Service the engine religiously with good oil (10W40), and you'll be sweet. Go see Dan at BNT TeRapa and he'll sort you out with some good stuff.

crap so i have a $100 paper weight in the form of an afm/shroud haha nice. any point in going td05 if not wanting to go passed 10-12psi anyway?

the larger turbo with the other supporting stuff does offer a small increase in power but is no where near as punchy it's more linear doesn't come on almost instantly like the td04 does by this i mean td04 snaps into boost td05 builds it steadily.

there are front housing and compressor wheels available on ebay stick to trusted ebay stores like kinugawa. i beleive the gsr is a 13T
so something like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbo-Compressor-kit-Upgrade-SUBARU-TD04L-13T-to-19T-/271355205508?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2e07d784

would see your turbo flowing alil more reducing top end taper (boost falling away)

dont suppose theres any known videos specifically of auto gsr's running that modded turbo? long shot as it is...

a note for that ebay ad

also... more on the td04 hybridising?
The TD04L 13G you have can have all manner of wheels added to it that exist in the TD04 family (13T, 15G and 19T). There is also the option of a TD04HL turbine wheel. All of the work will require machining/balancing and assembly. You're looking at $500+ to have that sort of work done to your existing turbo I'd say. A good guy to get in contact with would be Steve Murch from MSE: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Steve-Murch-Motor-Sport-Engineering/255636937679 to discuss something like this. I've done a bunch of hybrid TD05Hs myself, but never fiddled with a TD04.

F-All difference between the 14B and 16G lag wise they have the same TD05H turbine wheel - just in slightly smaller housing for the 14B. The compressor wheel make very little difference here. Personally I'm not a fan of the 14B compressor wheel, old tech and too small even for a 1.8 - but with the Auto I'd stick with the TD04 as mentioned above, there are some options when it comes to hybridising the TD04 for a bit more poke if the rest of the mods I list below don't do it for ya.

2.5" exhaust (No bigger on the TD04!)
Front mount i/c, nothing too big. Good old VR-4 items work a treat with the inlet/outlets enlarged to 2.5"
Boost up to 14psi
Transmission oil cooler upgrade if funds permit.
Evo 1-3 rear swaybar upgrade.
of course, shocks/springs/wheels/tyres

Don't waste time with an Evo fuel pump unless it's from something reasonably newish. The rest are likely to have done a million kms and will probably be pretty tired. Walbros can be had fairly cheap these days, and there are a lot more choices out there too.
Sounds good to me, I need to get myself a whiteline rear swaybar, missed out on 30% off, sigh....

yeah gotta mate who seems to be in with ol steve murch.
whats the story with the td04hl?
TD04HL came on some RVRs, Auto ones had a tiny 13T compressor, the manuals got the 15G. The TD04HL turbine wheel has a bit more inducer and less exducer than the TD04L. 41.3/47mm (inducer/exducer) for the TD04L vs 52/45.6mm for the TD04HL.

That's pretty much everything you'd need to do the upgrade, you'll have to have the housings machined to suit and the assembly balanced of course.

sweet, thats one more thing off the list. probably gonna get custom piping made up at 2"?
what is the best piping set up to go for? over the manifold?
