sheesh that's dodgy. looks like a knock-off.

No its genuine original eagle in an eagle box with made in china on the end. straight from china to the good old US of A. Where it was sold under the guise of a well finished, quality product.

comments from eagle included .....it will be fine to use.......the plugs are in straight......we use red loctite......the plugs arent stripped. the machining is fine.

I am going to use it as it as I happy with the fix we have done....but if I was doing it again. I wouldnt do it this way. I would have spent a bit more and got a billet machined crank instead of a cast one. mind you I can say it is f@rking hard material as when recutting the plug threads I bluntened a tap even using lube.....it just wouldnt cut any more so I had to get a new one.

hey when yours is done bring her around.

have any of you guys had noise level issues after installing 272/280's?
my exhaust is twice as loud and impossible to shut up without dramatically reducing flow.

and yes the casting is pretty rough on this crank but that isnt what pissed me off ....it was the gallery plugs and the poor journal finish.
those cranks are forged not cast (like most), but yes it wouldn't take much to grind the surface free of markings . btw, the rough surface is from the post machining shot-peening they receive - that is good!

(as an aside, the best thing you can do to an OEM nitrided crank to reduce fatigue fractures is shot-peening the journal radiuses - this is where they break usually from excessive bending. the only problem is you have to make sure the journal surfaces are not touched)

hey brian, are the journals rough to the point where a fingernail gets caught on it?

cheers

great :(... thems the joys of buying overseas. jeez you'll probably want to check its straight too.

my exhaust got quite a bit louder and deeper after the cams went in... it sounded a lot meaner. Are you worried about the EPA?

In regards to the original post, I've had some BC 280's dropped into my head which is about to be bolted up to my stroked block. Apparently the extra lift of the 280's really benefits the stroker motor. The adjustable cam gears will be used to move the power band around to suit the stroker.

I did have 272's in the car when it was a 2.0L and it was perfectly drivable.

From what I've been told, 280's in a 2.3L should behave much like 272's in a 2.0L.

I should have the car back on the road in 2 weeks, so I'll keep you posted.

nah she is straight....had all that checked when doing the threads.

does any one know what sort of advance i can run on the cam timing if I choose to run the 280s...to bring them in earlier

as rob said im using 280s on my 2.0L and i think its great, i love em and wouldnt go back...

the sound they make on idle is awesome, sounds like a top fuel dragster :p and most people ask if i have a rotary under the hood...:eek::rolleyes:

car is daily driven and cops dont look twice at me. engine note is a lot deeper and meaner and i guess with the extra lift and overlap it would be louder but its what i wanted...

that vid rob posted of me in his driveway doesnt do it justice, they are crazy lumpy and draws a crowd wherever i pull up.

idle is about 1100- 1400rpm, mega lumpy :D

go the 280's you wont regret it. if you're thinking of going 272's then 280's arent that far off.. i wish i had gone the 288's now...

it's not the sort of attention you'd want at 2am when pulling into a booze bus station :D.

What happened to their Varex mufflers?

I've got one and I reckon it's the greatest thing since Special Fried Rice and Sliced Bread :p Absolutely-bloody-wonderful for driving around your streets, idling in your driveway or just pulling into those booze bus stops without an exhaust noise to be heard, then when you want full flow and noise - BAHM! Open it up and "The quiet is gone" :D

i have driven into a booze buss thingy at 3am, i thought i was going to cop an epa or something, but the officer took the breath test said my exhaust sounded nice then told me to move along :)... got to love the nice ones..

damit if the Varex wasnt soo expensive, i would get 2 for my car..

+1

It is an 'un-natural' occurance, and i heard one in action for the first time on saturday... PSIBORG sounded no louder than a stock 1.5L carbi-fed lancer vith the varex valve closed... but open that muffler up and it is a whole new kettle of fish :D (or fush?)
