Sooo, I own a 95 cc with a 4g15 carb in it and seeing as its my daily not really planing to do much work or spend much on it. After some research and help from the lads on here I've ruled out an awd conversion for now. But I've made up my mind to have some fun and do a turbo conversion for shits and gigs lol. Will be doing all the work myself. Going to keep cost under a grand and will be using my stock t28 off zee s14. The fun part is I'll be keeping the carb and only supporting mod will be a really lumpy cam while still retaining factory springs/latches. So yeah....

One thing I'd really like to know is, has anyone on here got no brain like me and put a turbo on a 4g15 with a carb? Also any insults more than welcome lol.

Should probably point out that I'm not after a lot of power. Just want to have fun, do something different while entertaining you guys. As long as the car remains reliable and I'm not spending a lot on it, I'm happy to do all sorts of mods in my free time.

Ohhh should have probably posted the plan as well. So want to go top mount with custom extractors, thinking of running 1 1/2" intake pipe from turbo around outside of rocker cover then straight into a pressure box that sits on the carb. Might put a butterfly in this intake pipe before the carb just to settle pressure build up as won't be running a bov. Oil and water lines for turbo need to be sorted. Know where to get water not to sure on oil as of yet. Thinking of keeping stock exhaust, not to sure yet might make a full system and muffler just to save cash. Planing to run anywhere between 5-8 pounds. Should look cute as :3 haha

Ive seen something like this that can probably be used, i have no idea how you do the whole cooler setup on a carby lol

Look to the way factory Turbo Sigmas sucking in through carby's worked. They can work.... but you'll need to do some fabrication work and then stuff around with cams and tuning.
Probably cheaper just to sell your CC carby model car, buy a GLXi EFI model car and use a bolt on turbo kit and ECU programming. Will make more power and be more reliable than a carby with cams and turbo.
Or hang out for a cheap GSR for sale.
That's my opinion, in no way meaning disrespect to your original enquiry.

As somebody who spent ALOT of money on the stock 4G15 engine in their CC Coupe (head work, cam grind, carbie jetting, extractors, intake, exhaust.....) I can tell you it's not worth the time and money.

Drop a 4G93 or 4G93T in it and you'll have alot more bang for your buck.

I used a Carby push through system back in 1991 because back then it was cheaper. but nowdays there is more choice of engines and computers. Anyway I used the Solex single throat 32mm carburettor from the old KB ford laser turbos, could use up to 9psi boost for a few seconds on a 4g63 starion motor with a malpassi rising rate fuel reg and bosch efi fuel pump set to 45psi on boost. But after that , the float would run dry and detonate. That was on a2lt though and it was crude to drive compared to fuel injection. The only advantage was the throat has a 50mm lip to clamp a hose right on top of the carby.

here are couple if pics from the same motor in two different 1980 lancer hatchback cars I owned

Wow thanks for all the pics guys! Looks a lot more easy than I thought. I was going to make the whole intake side from sheet metal myself lol. Was going to keep the same carb and see how it would hold up with bigger jets.

Hmm I've got a set of twin carbies from the same ford engine that was in the ka/kB turbo but my carbs were for the high compression version of the engine not the turbo model. So the e5s not e5t. Maybe could mock up a conversion plate and bolt that up.

Honestly thanks so much from every response so far. Even the guys telling me not to do it thanks for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts. Just remember though guys, I've got an s14 that's my baby and meant for the hills. I'm not planing to spend much money at all on the lancer and as for time it would be spent having fun and hopefully posting some pics for you lads so it won't be wasted. If it don't work out its not a big deal at all :)

Ohh yeah and someone asked about an intercooler.... Probably won't be running one. If how ever everything works out I'll take the time to make some pipeing and run a little front mount for the cuteness :p

forgot to mention one thing, you probably don't have knock control and if you use a standard distributor with vacuum advance IT WILL DETONATE the pistons above 6PSI, I was able to get a vac advance /retard module for mine which worked a treat, the dodgy way is to lock your mechanical advance weights so it can't advance the timing with engine speed, that way it advances timing before boost and when it hits boost it will retard back to your original setting.
Another carby that works with boost is a Weber 34/34ADM, you got them off the old ford XF falcons. they have a boost enrichment circuit and a sealed float chamber which other carbys don't have, this is crucial for push through turbo.

damn completely forgot about the advance! thanks heaps for that. Got a mate who's trashing an XF might have a look at his carbie.
