i saw that on ebay as well. I wander how 'technical' it really is? I bought an 'engine tuning' book from Repco awhile back (it was a Haynes book), and it was about as technical as typical Hot4's articles!

I recently read the new book by Robert Garcia that owns Road Race Engineering called "How to Build Max-Performance Mitsubishi 4G63T Engines". Mik-e's girlfriend bought it for him but he gave it to me to read first :) .

About 99% of the stuff in it many of us old hands who build engines would already know. There's a couple other things in it that'll help tweak the next engine I build but other than that its a pretty good one to have for those starting out or planning an engine build in the future.

It goes into detail for almost every mod you could possibly do to the engine, including bolt-ons only, then internals and different power levels you could expect to achieve along the way. For those who are building the engine themselves he talks about the way he builds his race engines with using a torque plate on the block, line-boring and stuff. I found it pretty easy to read but some technical topics were explained a bit wish-washy and you could easily get lost in the science of intakes and volumetric efficiency and stuff that might go over the top of some heads.

Other than that if you use it as a guide to all the different things you can do to the 4G63T engine and what to expect out of it to get some decent power, it's great. If you know what it takes to build a performance 4G63T, especially the more technical side of things in regard to machining and assembly, then you really wouldnt benefit much in buying it. But I reckon about 90% of the guys out there should buy it!! If there's one 4G63T book you want to buy, it's this one!

Rob :)

I seen them on ebay brian. was looking at it but wondered how in depth it was. Now thats answered.

Another great book ive flicked though is Maximum boost.
All about turbo engines, uses some basic physics and calcs to explain why you would do certain things.
But its not just all calcs and waffle.
Thats also on ebay for around 55 bucks posted. I asked at local book shops and it was 80 bucks to get it in! Ebay for the win.

Go to amazon.com, type in 4G63T on the search line and the book will come up. Mine cost $40 delivered to my door from the US. Amazon is piss easy to use but when you order from the US, you have to make sure they ship to Australia/International. I have bought loads of stuff off there and never had a problem..

When you come over next time Frankie I'll show you :) Most of it is pretty common knowledge engine upgrade stuff most of us see people doing in the forums. The little tweaks cost a fair bit of money to do for not much gain per say, but then again its done for maximum efficiency and reliability for racing purposes and you'll find that Baz's engine build thread has done many of the same things Rob Garcia speaks about in the book

I've also used Rob G's 4g63 book for reference when i built my forged engine, but as Rob said there was only a few small mods that I might have done in the book if!!! I was running a Race team and had the corresponding Budget to go with it.

Great for someone who wants to learn about it in theory first.

i just brought 1 of these, cant wait to get it, so if any 1 in the north wants a borrow offers here plz note borrow, lol
