Howdy all...

Just wondering what soft of mods people have done to there 4G93 motors?
Where they found the biggest inprovments etc etc
Just trying to work out what is holding me back with my car...
(I think its a blocked cat, so im doing some exhaust pressure testing at the moment) but would still be interesting to know what mods / power everyone is getting...

Thank you
Jason

its a fairly common and best 'bang for buck' upgrade, all the parts off EVO 1-3's!!

EVO ECU
EVO injectors
EVO turbo
EVO intercooler
EVO i/c plumbing
EVO AFM

and a good clutch might help!!!

this setup is good for a mid 12, maybe quicker!!

OK from stock 15.4 to my [email protected] i did this to my car, or it was already done to it when i bought it:

Avo frontmount intercooler and heavy ass pipes,
Then replaced pipes with custom made ones, re-routed the pipes direction, cutting off about a metre and a bit of pipework,
Pod filter with shroud,
3 inch exhaust from turbo back, hi flow cat,
turbosmart manual boost controller set to 12-13psi (spiking to 14/15 for a cold heathcote day) for that particular run,
Turbosmart typeII blow off valve

BP ultimate with 1-2 litres of Toluene added.

Full street trim minus front bar and spare tyre and all seats still in car, std GSR rims.

Humm i wound've thought that with all the OEM Parts from a evo 1-3 (Depending on what turbo you get E 1,2,3)
you woundn't go quicker that a stock EVO 3 (Mid 13's)
A EVO 3 with an Exhaust fitted will run into the high 12's
So transfer all the parts onto the 1.8 4G93 i wouln't have thought it's get a better time than a EVO with a exhaust fitted would it? :?

you'd expect an intake and exhaust to be included in those mods.
it'd depend how much boost you ran aswell.

ARGO Conrods and Hyperteuretic pistons
Custom front mount intercooler
Apexi AVCR (boost computer)
Apexi SAFC (fuel computer)
Apexi ITC (Ignition computer)
Exeddy Daikan 5 puck ceramic clutch
3 inch mandrel bend exhaust system
EVO II Fuel injectors
Bosch VLT Fuel Pump
Malpassi Fuel Pressure Regulator
Apexi power intake

and it's ran a 12.9.. i've never run it before as its currently at workshop but will giev it a go when its back.. thats running 21psi btw

3" mandrel bent s/s exhaust from turbo back
XFORCE Titanium Muffler
HKS pod on custom s/s intake
GFB plumback BOV
EVO6 intercooler
Walbro in-tank fuel pump
Custom s/s Intercooler piping
Port-matched and polished exhaust manifold
big16G/14B hybrid turbo
Catch can
Aluminium airbox
Battery Relocated to boot

BUT

standard injectors
standard ecu

I havent ran it down the quarter yet, or got it dynoed either, which is shit - so i cant really give you an idea of power.....

i will say however, that its much quicker than stock, but at the same time, you can feel that the injectors and ecu are holding it back something chronic!

maybe youve got chronic Knock and your timing is being retarded. try useing a data logger  so you can see when its knocking.

My set up

Aspec GSR ECU chipped & bayed By Meek Automotive
450's injectors from Galant VR4
TD05 14b turbo with evo3 exhaust housing.
GSR manifold milled out to 60mm and ported
EVO intercooler
EVO i/c plumbing
EVO AFM
60mm throttle body with wax pellet block off plate
with standard internals with stainless head and exaust mani gaskets.
Turbodumb boost bleed valve. (running .6bar boost) had the bleed valve set at .9 bar and it was knocking its tits off backed it off to .6 bar and most counts of knock at present is 5 counts which Im very happy with as befor i backed off the boost it was running anything up to 30 counts of knock and retarding timing bigtime and felt gutless definatly a pocket rocket now tho

havn't run new set up on a dyno or on the strip yet :x

Dont forget that you have to turn the boost up to a safe A/F level!

GSRWRC has proved it can be done, he's pulled a 12.62@107mph with a slipping clutch, on a small 16g......

These are his mods:

2.5" Exhaust (Flexi joint back), Custom 2.5" dump pipe
K&N pod
Evo ECU, AFM and Injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Evo 4 BOV
Hybrid EBC
Evo intercooler and piping
Ceramic Clutch, Evo pressure plate
Oil Catch Can
Evo 2 pot Front brakes
17" Advanti Racing wheels
Evo 2 Front bumper and Guards
Evo 2 Recaro front seats
TD05 Small 16g Turbo
38mm Tial external wastegate (Plumbed back into exhaust)
Autometer Boost and Oil pressure gauges
Shortened and Valved KYB Shocks to suit 45mm Lowered King springs

This is why he is getting good results out of the small 16g
Exernal wastegate.

My car with only these mods ran a 13.6 on a 44deg day which had a track temp of over 60degrees. So work that out to a cool night with much better air density and should be even quicker..

mods at that time:
exhaust
filter
bov
front mount

-no ecu upgrade
-no boost upgrade
-no turbo upgrade
-no fuel upgrade
-no injector upgrade

now that i have done more things to it, i want to give it another run and see if it can make a low 13 pass.. which should be achievable.. :D

iv done a 13.8 in my coupe with 220hp@13psi at the front wheels.
big 16G
microtech ecu
450cc injectors
aromotive fuel presure reg
500hp intank walbro pump

I've run a 14.000 in mine

All i had when i ran that was evo3 front mount with custom piping and 3" dump pipe back exhaust with "super hyper megaflo" cat.

Jason

I would have thought the first thing to do would be upgrade the ecu to a stand alone unit like a microtec or simmilar. The evo ECU is good but a stand alone would be better, far more tunable, safer to run higher boost, and you retune it for further mods.

On a stock 4G93T using a TDO4 i got 132.7kw at the front wheels.
15psi, Microtech, FMIC and 2 1/2" exhaust.

It did a 14.2 sec 1/4 (gtech mind you aint had it on a proper strip as yet) On street tyres and a fair bit of wheele spin in first and second.

Next thing im getting is definatly an Eboost and bigger turbo!!!

Ahhh negatory on that one. Tis a 94 gsr, pcitures of it are in the members section. That time was ran at the 2004 jamboree. I was running constant 14.2's te day before in practice. Thought that's dialing in at 14.12ish would be fine. Weather felt the same as the day before. Was stoked to get the 14 but that means i broke out :D

i've just put a TD05H onto my gsr, i've noticed a lot more power up high, the car is in the shop atm getting a full 3" exhaust from dump back which is also a new custom made one. the car pulls really hard. i'll b taking it down the 1/4 in a bout a 3 weeks, i'll let u all know how i went. i'll b happy with a flat 14. just gotta wait till the nights get a bit colder tho
