Hi,

So I have a pajero io, 4g94, 225,000kms on it still going 100%. I know I'll be up for a rebuild in the next 50k and govern I drive 140kms a day that will sneak up quite fast.

I need a 4g9 block as my gearbox is unique and no others exist to suit the 4g6 blocks (except a rare euro diesel 4g6 thing and the ratios are useless for a petrol motor).
Euro ios are all DOHC GDI which looks too hard, I could go a 4g93e head which would use my io manifolds (northsouth mounted 4g9 block so cannot use 4g93tetc plumbing).

Big question is, llt racing has examples built, guys talk about doing it but no feedback or success stories. Is it worth it?

As it is a 4wd low torque is everything. Plan is to pick up a low kms lancer 4g94 off ebay/gumtree to start work on so mine can keep running.

Thoughts?

Ps. No turbos, just na

i see no reason why an engine would require a rebuild in 50k if it is still serviced and maintained properly (have had engine go and are still going well into their millions in their unopened state.) all i'd suggest for you is a timing belt water pump new plugs and leads. and an oil change as per regular intervals. this would constitute a major service and should see you until 375k km on the belt and and 350k km on the plugs.

it's great you want to mdify and all but i have to say if it aint broke why fix it?

It really lacks below 4k, and by 5.5k its all over. Have been looking at the fuel pressure and rail upgrades and a stage 2 sohc cam but unsure.
My experience is with old Holden red motors. Fat cam big carb goes hard BANG. No idea with these at all.

I would not go by Km's alone, if it is leaking oil, smoking. compression down etc then rebuild time for sure, but well maintained can last for a longtime, for example the family Magna is up to 445000 and still going OK.

Bob, you say "It really lacks below 4k, and by 5.5k its all over", is this a recent phenomenon ? If so have you done some tests (compression, leakdown etc) on it ? From what you said it does not sound termnal and you may get alot more than 50k out of it. Of course if you want to rebuild it and have some fun then just ignore me!

Sorry I have not answered your question (because I can't!) and gone off on a tangent, but I thought I would add my 2c worth in terms of getting more K's out of it.

Ive had a coupe with almost 400000klms on it and it still ran like a dream, if you think it needs a rebuild then go for it

Now what is your question?? I couldn't make it out, the IO has a 4G94 2ltre?? then you say something about the 4G63 2ltre?? the 4G6X blocks and the 4G9X blocks are completely different and cannot interchange

Question was: is the 4g93e dohc conversion worth it on a4g94 sohc or am I better off keeping the sohc and camming it?

Lots of talk about the dohc kits from llt racing but no dyno figures etc
