That would make you the best qualified person to find out!

3 bolts or so a couple of wires and a bit of mucking around to get it on and off, have a go at it!

for under 50 you can rebuild it yourself new bearings and new contact brushes, grab the pdf section of the electrical RE: Alternator and its a piece of Pi$$

Definitely NOT the same. The 4G93 range of engines have a different alternator to 4G63's. If you need one on the cheap grab one off a SOHC GLXi 4G93 Lancer :D

The guts on the inside are mostly the same though. I bet if you were so inclined you could probably make 1 good one out of the two.

Normally alt's start getting faultly its when contact brushes are to far worn down and the brush contact feed wire which is attached stops it from making contact.
If you can solder and take something apart and put it back together (its a very basic Job BTW, nothing tricky about doing it)
grab the Electrical pdf section and follow the instructions the new brushes are about 15$ for the pair and just follow the instructions from pdf, I threw in new bearings as well as mine when opened up were gone went to a alt reco place and bought the bearings and brushes and DIMyself result = brand new reco'd alt. :D

as long as you can get it to bolt up and wired up, it should be ok

My alternator has also shit itself... everyone mentions to grab the electrical pdf... but I can't seem to find one detailing the rebuilding of the alternator.
Which pdf should I be looking for?

most likely the regulator...they dont like heat as I discovered a little while back.

Yep... It is reading 17 volts over the battery at idle.
Is it possible to replace the regulator?
yes it is possible to replace regulator as mine was replaced...they are around $270 though from memory.
