I have an autometer oil pressure gauge mounted in the cabin. I recently disconnected it to move it from the pillar but I've since put it back. Now when I start the car the dial goes all the way around for a few seconds then back to zero then settles between 20 and 40. It sits on 60 while cruising at 100ks.

Have I reconnected it wrong?
Is it faulty ?

Thanks again for any advice.

Electrical ones sometimes do a reset of the motor, especially if the coltage suddenly spikes through them, they'll do a full rotation and then settle back to a correct reading.

Is this the same reading you have been getting when it was in its old location??

I have digital oil pressure gauge and at start up I get 60-70 psi, when oil temp at 90deg and idle I'm getting bout 5-8psi and 3000rpm getting 50-60psi. What oil you running cause it makes a hell of a lot of diff. Those readings are with 20w-50. Previously using 5w-30 I was getting 0 psi at idle and oil temp would easily pass the 100-105deg mark. I was shocked at the differences. It's so true that "oils ain't oils" lol

It does sound like a bit of multiplication through the lines may be occuring here, this is dependant on whether the pickup is outside the motor and is remote fed, or whether the sensor has been placed inside then block to check this. Not sure how much, as I can't see the system, but it is a possibility.

Also, I know it's a but strange to say this, but have you also ensured that your gaskets, rings, and etc. can handle the pressures and such that you are making.

Too much pressure you blow stuff, and if the readings are below what they should be for your car (Every car is different unless it came off the factory floor, and still....) you could have a leaky gasket somewhere that you may not even know about (Say, between Oil Ports in your head, no smoke means the gasket seal to chambers is fine, and your water galleries are fine, so no net loss of oil, and no telltake signs)

all the electronic gauges on my bike do this. sounds about right.

is it fully electric or mechanical with a oil tube?
Its Mechanical with oil tube

Yeah I think I have an oil leak at the head gasket. Discussed briefly in one of my other posts I will fix that first and check for any kinks in the oil tube. I've started looking at the workshop manuals. Lacking the required confidence to pull the head off to replace the gasket.

yeah it's some foobar rule. because if the hose comes off or the gauge catastrophically fails fluids will be ejected all over the cabin = not good in the road. they are fine if mounted on the hood but not inside the cabin
