The NSW Govt has launched two hard hitting new advertisements and a suite of reforms to curb the high number of P-Plate fatalities.
As of July 2007, all young drivers will now spend a minimum of 4 years on the graduated licensing scheme and face tough new zero tolerance penalties.
Last year 94 people were killed in accidents involving a P-Plate driver, that's 21 more than the previous year!!! P-Platers speeding was a factor in 40% of the accidents. Under the new reform, P1 drivers caught speeding will lose their licence for a minimum of 3 months - zero tolerance!!
P1 drivers will aso face strict passenger restrictions as well. They will only be allowed to carry 1 passenger under the age of 21 between the hours of 11pm - 5am (excemptions apply).
Young drivers will also face new restrictions involving mobile phones and in-car handsfree, blue tooth and loudspeaker functions when driving.
P-Plates will have to be displaye don the EXTERIOR of cars, after too many people were placing them in obscure positions and angles on the inside of the car i.e. dashboards, parcel shelf etc.
I've been involved in placing up a plethora of new P-Plate banners in the Hunter region depicting the image below. You'll also start to see them go up everywhere including billboards etc. The message is clearly hard-hitting and in your face, so....
