bent/warped wheel hub? worse...

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Got started on the swap this arvo at work.
Double checked the hub with the dial indicator and had the exact same result, showing warped type movement and no play in the hub from worn bearing.

Eventually got the knuckle off and the hub has play, is this just because there's no driveshaft or is this my problem ?
Properly compared the two, abs sensor placement is different. Is this a Vr4 knuckle?

After realizing there wasn't much else I could do I left.
Should I just get the hub from the replacement put into my Gsr knuckle in the morning.

Also just for more fun, this is ment to be a circle right..

I reckon I've finally found out how it was a stat write off once upon a time.
I replaced the sway bar bolt on this side ages ago because it was bent.
It's always felt good handling wise though which is weird.

Now you know how the hub got bent... it was flogged into something, probably a kerb.

Replace that lca and get a wheel alignment done. Get all the measurements on the printout. It will tell you everything about how the wheels are placed under your car.

Yes the freeplay is from not having a shaft done up.
You really need to swap over the race that will be left on the hub as it is a matched pair.
If you have a full knuckle with hub, id be tempted to fit it. At least take some careful measurements comparing them to see if yours is bent.
I run a straight edge along the machined face that the strut bolts too and measure from there to the ball joint hole. And also along the bolt holes compared to the ball joint hole

So i dont want to jinx it, but after driving the car for a week after having the good hub pressed into my GSR knuckle, its fixed?!?
No scraping sounds when braking, no creaking when driving down my driveway, nothing.
I dont have a straight edge, so i cant properly tell about the old hub, but once it was swapped over the new one had no play what so ever.

New lower arm should be on its way, and all front bushings, tie rods and ball joints have been ordered so its a full suspension/steering rebuild next : )

Good work.
You could measure wheelbase on each side and I have used a level to compare camber left to right. Space level out at bottom from tyre and hold level straight up and measure to from level to top of wheel. Compare to other side.
Its only a comparison so should have equal tyre pressure so tyre bulge at bottom is same.
