Cabin fumes.. Hardcore!

Hey guys,

had this problem ever since I've brought the car, I get mad cabbin fumes, kind of like fuel / burning oil ?? hard to explain everytime the windows down.

You can stop it if you seal everything up and shut all the air vents etc etc, but if you then hit boost you can still smell it a bit..

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, starting to piss me off, had people in the car the other day and they were like "what the fuck is that smell?" !!

I did notice the other day that my petrol cap has a crack in in? maybe thats is adding to the cause?

Any help appreciated! Can show adelaide guys first hand if they want!!

Firstly you need to distiguish if its simply fuel or something else


If its fuel, im sure you know what that smells like, check the hose that goes from the neck of the filler to the tank, the cap, and the tank itself.

Other than that its likely oil dripping somwhere onto your exhaust and burning, have a look around your manifold and dump pipe.
The timing belt can sometimes rub (burn) on a seized idler bearing and give a real sweet burning stench. This is fairly unlikely but ive seen it happened once.

Is there meant to be a free outlet on the charcoal canister? like with no pipe connected to it? I think mine are all the wrong way around and missing hoses and that sort of thing,

I should mention that the car has had an engine bay fire sometime in it's life so it could be related?

also found 3 small vac hoses running off the inlet manifold (right at the bottom) connected to nothing with tek screws in the end... wtf surley a round bolt would have been better than a sharp tek screw? haha not the point

Nope, but I do have a dodgy seal on the oil filler cap.. maybe letting some fumes out where they shouldn't be?
