CAMS focuses on reducing costs of grass roots motor sport in '06
CAMS Media Release
22 Nov 2005
Grass roots motor sport has been the focus for the CAMS Board in its
review of fees for 2006, the Board announcing that there will be
reductions in CAMS club affiliation fees and CAMS permit fees for
club and state level motor sport and no cost increase to CAMS
competition licences across the board.
The CAMS Board has continued its policy of creating a stabilised
environment for Australian motor sport competitors with CAMS
competition licence costs remaining unchanged for the second year
running.
CAMS affiliated clubs are the big winners with a 20% reduction in
CAMS affiliation fees in 2006. This follows a reduction in
affiliation fees in 2005, resulting in a 40% decrease over two years.
Of further benefit to grass roots motor sport is the reduction of
CAMS permit fees, taking permits for club and state level events back
to 2002 cost levels.
Rally competitors will welcome the introduction of a Clubman Rally
licence, for rally drivers and navigators participating in events up
to and including State level, which will help to contain the costs of
rallying at the entry level of the sport. Complementing this new
initiative, the cost of an International Rally licence has reduced by
5%.
CAMS Audit and Finance Committee Chairman Andrew Papadopoulos said
that the focus on the grass roots level of the sport was important.
?It was imperative that we concentrate on keeping costs at the entry
level of the sport maintained to encourage more people to get
involved in motor sport activity. Stable licence costs and reductions
in CAMS permit fees, particularly for speed and circuit events,
provides CAMS affiliated car clubs with opportunities to run
successful events with improved competitor numbers and the flow on
effect is a healthy motor sport industry.
?Initiatives such as the Clubman Rally licence and the reduction in
CAMS club affiliation fees are directed at growing the membership
base and getting more people involved at the entry levels of the
sport.?
Further information and the full schedule of fees for 2006 can be
