Hey guys just spent a week replacing (and finding) a burnt out valve in a corrolla 4wd. My valve spring compressor i obught for an old gemini i bought for my sister had the wrong size foot so i had many a fun hour with some multigrips and a screwdriver :p.
But the real fun came when rocker cover back on i look around the car and see 2 bolts sitting there. I looked for ages trying to think what i had taken off. Got my mum and dad to check it out as a pair of fresh eyes. Then luckily as i was about to say screw it i will call it "weight reduction" I found what they were to.
The engine mount :p
Whole point of this post is im curious as to how much work you guys do yourselves on your cars and how much you pawn off on your beloved but expensive mechanics?

Why?
Half the fun is getting to know your car, as all cars wear differently they are all different.
Think of the hours wasted on doing a simple task because its in an akward spot and you dont have a full car hoist in your garage that your missing out on :p
So are you like made of money?
What about brake pads?

Why not?

I know my car well enough. I drive it, I don't fix it.

I do have a hoist.

Maybe.

No.

btw the time is an hour off.
This isnt falcodore.com so i would hope no one thinks the curtains are going to fade.

The time doesn't modify for daylight savings because not all states have daylight savings... such as qld.

And yes, a three ton full length three phase car hoist. Ramp type not the 4 arm type.

Oh shit sorry thought you just misunderstood me.
Ok this might sound like a stupid question but why do you have a X thousand dollar hoist and yet not do any work on you car?
And im so jealous i could cry :p

goddamnt it i want a car hoist!!!!

**thumps fist into table **

when i get a massive shed i will invest in a hoist, just cos!!!!!

first i need some money.. & a property with a house & enough space for a shed..

lol
fair enough.
i havent been working on cars all that long but already im gwtting ove rit
enteran i see does that mean u want to sell your hoist?? ;) ;)

done all of the work myself except for timing belt when i got it and clutch cos i didn't have the time

everything except internals and gearbox internals..

some things are better left to the professionals..

one day ill give it a shot

a tip with bolts, use some sort of plastic bag (u know those sandwich ones) and label them as u remove

eg, engine mount bolts / rocker cover bolts / manifold bolts etc etc

that way, u know where everything goes when u put it back together and you dont kick the bolts around...
