CC Gsr Vin number help!!!

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. I've just looked at a 94 lancer gsr as a potential purchase however the vin number on the chassis firewall under the bonnet does not match the id tag Vin number.

Tag Vin: JMFCC7S xxxxxxxxxxx (17 numbers)
Firewall number : FSNCD XXXXXXXXX (14 numbers)

Is there another chassis number somewhere? Where is the location of a 94 gsr chassis or vin number?

Also the engine has been replaced by a 4g63, where is the engine number located?

Engine number is stamped on the face of the block down to the left of the power steering pump
VIN should be reading CD5A XXXXX

For clarification.

There are two VINS on the car.

CD5A is the Japanese VIN This is stamped on the firewall.

JMFCC is the vin stamped on the australian compliance plate and the strut tower.

NO.

Chassis number should be 14 Characters and stamped on Firewall. Should be FSNCD5A followed by 7 more Alpa/Numerical Characters.

VIN should be 17 Characters and be located both on the firewall ID tag AND stamped on the passenger strut tower AND match the Rego label..

VIN should contain JMFCC followed by 12 more Alpha/Numeric Characters.

Engine number is where jap63 said AND also matches the REGO label.

Anything other than the above raise questions to do with registering new/replacement engines etc....import/ RAWS SEVS/rebuilds etc.etc...(another topic thats been covered many times before and caused many an argument)

Thanks for the quick reply, the engine number and vin are on the rego sticker. Where is the vin on the passenger strut exactly? I need clear instructions so to direct the seller over the phone.

If its had a 2L conversion and the engine number is on the registered papers then thats a good thing, someone has gone to the effort to engineer it by the look of it.

Is this car a J-Spec Import lancer?
I always thought the Jap VIN was found in front of the drivers wheel on the Firewall, thats where it was located on my E III, any other Vin is usually also found on the firewall, except if it has been imported i think transport here engraves it sometimes on one of the strut towers, ive seen it on either side..

If its an import it will be reading 6U9OOO...does it have this at all?

I didnt realise there was a chassis number and a Vin...my evo had just one.

No it doesn't have 6u9000, It has got a strut brace on it and I reckon the vin might be located under this but just wanna make sure before disassembling the blokes car. Does a gsr need engineering if it is only increasing 200cc in capacity to a 4g63?

Pretty sure it will..just like when people were rebirthing cars, they had to ensure the brakes etc were engineered to the motor...it may vary state to state but i think it will need doing.

Anyway back on topic, if someone can tell me where on the strut tower the VIN is then I can get the owner to check.

It is on the passenger side strut tower on the outside. It will be stamped there and will match the VIN on the compliance plate on the firewall.

Should be able to read it by standing at the passenger wheel looking straight down at the strut tower.

If it isn't there it might be reason for concern.

Do you any pictures of the car you can show us so that we can give you some general advice.

Thanks for everyones help. Vin number located under strut brace on passenger side so I'm now the pround owner of a gsr.

I think your allowed 200cc or 400cc larger without engineers by memorie
