Hate to Shitcan a company but this is the 3rd clutch in 2 different cars to fail in the same way. It's the ACS (adelaide clutch services) extreme Heavy duty ceramic button clutch. check it out...

I have seen this happen a few time on delivery van's, standard clutches mind you, usually the spring is broken into lots of peices and jamming **** up, or just getting loose.

this is why it broke:

1. they dont use an excedy disc centre, its a VALEO which is a VERY cheap brand.
2. looks like you have got it hot abit hence why it probably broke.. but that said i think the valeo disc centre played a big part in this.

Bad luck man. There is only one side that has the spring retainer holding the springs into the clutch plate so that's a bit dodgey (the part that broke off on yours) The good ones usually have the metal on both sides. Looks like the spring went on a wierd angle because of the lack of the 2nd retainer and forced its way out.

I spoke with Exedy in Brisbane about spring failures, they said that these failures are usually caused by the weight of the gearbox not being fully supported by something while it is being reinstalled, and that all the weight then hangs of the splined bore in the centre, which twists it.

That makes a bit of sense.

Jack Monkhouse has had the same problems when he had his VR4!
My gearbox and clutch were put on out of the car so no chance of extra weight on the splined centre of the clutch plate while installing. Cheap disc centre!

outta warranty now, happend twice on the VR4 covered once, then they said not their prob.

Yeah I had problems with the clutch on the old VR4, it wouldnt let you shift fast at high revs- swapped it out for an exedy 3-puk and didnt have any issues after that.

exedy clutches are the best for our cars IMO
