Clutch Issues

What are peoples opinions on twin plates? ExtremeClutch do a twin plate kit for the GSR. No idea what the cost would be, compared to a cushioned button single plate kit.

Was just suggesting that may have been the issue based on what I've been reading. Does sound like a design fault from what you're saying though.
I am running this clutch on a 93t, and had the same problem when looking for a new clutch, not a heap of options for the 93t
The guy that built it is convinced a 3mm washer will solve my problem, apparently they do this 'on a daily basis'.

If you use a 3mm washer then you'll have to wind the master cylinder rod right in, and you'll have about one inch of useable pedal. The rest will be flop. My advice is take it out, take it back, get your money back, before you use it and he refuses you a refund. If he refuses you a refund, consumer law. A product can be returned for a full refund if it does not do what the seller says its supposed to do.

More exedy issues..
I had this problem when I put an Edexy HD kit into my car.
Had to shim the pivot ball to get it to diengage the clutch. However doing so meant that when you adjust the master cylinder rod to take the slack out of the pedal, you give it so much throw that the clutch plate springs contact the pressure plate fingers. Whole thing's a mess.
it seems like the clutch plate is too thin, the pressure plate friction surface is too fat, the flywheel step is wrong....or combinations of.

I'm pretty sure my flywheel is fine because I had an OEM replacement kit in there beforehand, which worked fine. Since I went to the Exedy kit, it's never worked 100% properly :/
Will not be using one of their kits again.

Yep, I had the same situation, previous RPM aftermarket clutch worked fine. Now this one I can't seem to get to work.

According to the video posted above its a common fix. But I don't think it's because of clutch fork wear or the flywheel being machined. Everything was a perfect match in spec, the only thing we didn't check which I'm suspicious of is the bearing which I think could cause an issue.

Guys, I have mentioned this many times in this forum... Excedy are prone to breaking and rely on their brand name for sales when their 4G63 clutches don't last the test of time or abuse. I cannot speak highly enough about the SPEC Stage 3+ clutch in my car. Its a single clutch disc but the thing is great. Remember the "+" PLUS model. It's the part number SM483F.
You are all better off buying one of those over an Exedy anyday!!
Over 300kw atw in my coupe and its holding. It didn't even get hot and slip with 10 runs down WSID in the same day, some runs a few minutes apart, a couple years back.
Pedal feel is lighter, almost stock like and nowhere near how heavy the Exedy feels. This is good for our firewalls!!! Plus it grabs hard too. The only drawback is some added driveline noise through the transmission but hey, we modifty cars for the power, not for the comfort.

It's a shame that our Aussie dollar sucks badly these days and that it is not cheap to buy one anymore.
In my experience over the years, this Spec clutch is by far the best bang for buck and I am glad that I bought it.
My Spec's only done 5,000kms on it, but I have since bought a twin plate Comp Clutch kit that I haven't fitted yet because I know once I go to E85, my current 330kw atw is going increase to more power and torque atw that I'm going to need the twin plate.

Yeh, ~$700AUD landed for one of those, ouch!

I don't know what everybody is complaining about. $700AU is cheap for a damn good clutch landed to your door.
It's better than $1000AU+ for anything local in comparison, or $1400+ for a twin plate.
My opinion is why would anybody want to pay $350-$600 for a clutch they know is going to break and then go through the hassle of buying 2 clutches and pulling the gearbox off twice, for the sake of paying a little extra to get a good clutch in the first place? :)

I see the cost prices on the local stuff via work, thats all, so that makes $700 seem reeeeally expensive :D

Box is coming out again on Sunday, will put a shim in and hopefully the new slave cylinder arrives today, otherwise I'll be hunting around for one tomorrow.

Will let you all know how it goes.
