I was having an issue with my car and the clutch not fully disengaging but would still be able to drive just sometimes I'd have trouble getting it in and out of gears. I'd had the same sort of problem before but which was the slave cylender, i change it over and all was good.

when i got this problem again, i rebled the clutch and it seemed to be ok for about a week, then the otherday it became that bad that i couldnt drive it at all, like the clutch was always engaged, so i sourced a brand new slave cly, i've just fitted it this morning, rebeld the cluch taken it for a spin and theres been no change....

Im just after some ideas to what it could be?

Cheers

Steve

PS: I'm running an excedy heavy duty single plate button clutch.

there are issues with the pedal assembly giving way when u run heavy duty clutches like that, not sure if that would be the problem though.

Clutch may have been installed wrong?

or maybe ur syncros are just screwed?

Just out of the blue...go and check that all the gearbox bolts are done up tight and none are missing! Especially near the slave

where abouts would i check for a crack in the firewall? just around the master cylender?

Yeah get someone to operate the clutch pedal while you check it.....

Check them bolts too as i found one almost out the other day on mine...

well i checked arond the master cylender and couldnt see any cracks, but one thing i did notice was that there were some tiny bubbles appearing in the fluid of the master after pumping the clutch a few times,

I blead the system and i noticed that the fluid seemed to look like it had bublles in it, i blead it till the fluid seem to be coming out clean(free of bubbles) and same thing again, its ok to begin with but then gets worse after about 2 mins of driving.

Just a bit of an update,

I pulled the gearbox out friday and changed the thrust bearing, and put a washer behind the pivot ball, while the box was out i checked the clutch it all seemed to be ok.

I bolted everything back up, reblead the clutch system, started the car up and still the same thing, push the clutch in, and nothing... it still wont go in to gear, when the cars off i can shift into all gears whitout any problems.

one other thing i noticed is that the clutch pedal doesnt feel as heavy as it use to, kinda like the slave isnt pushing out far enough.

any other suggestions on what it could be?

does anyone know a workshop that hasnt closed for chrissy?

While off did you check that all of the pressure plate bolts were tight?
Putting a washer behind the pivot ball is a bandaid fix. Buy a new one, they are not expensive....Meek has them for $18.70+ freight....Also a new clutch fork when you change the clutch is a good idea.......

How are the shifter bushes?

Stretched cable.....

Did you check/tighten the bell housing bolts? Any missing?

No leaks?

im aware that they are only a bandaid fix, i do plan on doing it when i have the spare money for a fork and ball.

all the bolts seemed fine on the pressure plate.

the shifter bushes are the ones that connect the shifter to the gearbox selector? yeah they seem fine,

selector cables seem fine.

all the bolts on the bellhousing are tight and none are missing, from what i can see there are no leaks, i have felt around the master on the inside of the firewall and cant feel any fluid.

It feels like trying to put a car into gear when then clutch isnt pushed in

This is exactly what is happening to my gsr, bugger to get into first, 2nd and 3rd are very rough, 4th and 5th dont feel normal either. As you mention, mine also shifts smoother when the engine is off.

However 2 different mechanics have said its normal and nothing to worry about?? So taking it to a mechanic probly aint going to help u much, from my experiences.

Either way if u do manage to fix the problem let me know becos it will have to be worth a try on my part aswell.

so if u bleed the clutch so no bubbles come, does the car then select gears? but only for 2 mins then goes back to normal... or bleeding it is not helping it one bit...

cause u said it does not feel like a heavey duty clutch anymore... so it either sounds like u have air in the clutch fluid, cause NO bubbles should be comming out at all...
i would be looking for an internal leak clutch/slave cylinder, marster clylinder etc...

if its not that it would then have to be your fork...

thats all i can think of without seeing it...

hope u solve it soon mate...

looks like its clutch plate, pulled everything appart again and to find that 2 teeth from the clutchplate had come loose....

so... what sort of clutch should i be running?
