Morning dudes,

When i bought my gsr, it had no crash bar, because the Evo 1 IC piping got in the way.
I have since taken the one out of my GLXI and although it fits in there, and the bolts all match up, there is still an issue with the piping going over the top of the intercooler.

Ive spent countless hours looking at photos of Gsr's with front mounts & Evo 1 2 3's and in alot of cases the bar isnt there, but sometimes it is still installed, and everything looks fine.
I realise GSR came with SMIC, so am i looking for an Evo crash bar?

What have you guys done? Or what should i do?

Thanks

There's a few options you can take IMO:

1. Fit an EVO front bumper - easiest in terms of getting everything to fit but will cost money to buy and paint and you will need the EVO guards as it won't match up to your GSR guards;
2. Pull out the grinder and start trimming bits and pieces away from your GSR bumper reinforcement - this will let you keep your GSR front bar and have reinforcement, but it will be a time consuming and fiddly job. That said, this would be my preferred option;
3. Don't fit the reinforcement - if you're in a collision you'll just need to accept that you're going to incur more damage;
4. Re-route your intercooler piping so that it doesn't run over the top of the intercooler;
5. Fit a VR4 intercooler - they're smaller than the EVO1-3 and will allow you to run piping over the top with a full front factory bar setup. I did this on my CC Coupe when I did my first VR4 conversion;

Sorry, forgot to mention I already have an Evo 1 front end.

Points 3 & 4 are the options ive thought of most already, but i would really like to have the bar installed, and even though i have a tonne of spare piping, i would like it to be setup in a "stock" way.

Point 5 is looking like a good option, but i guess im wondering how the bar/IC/Piping came on a stock evo 1 2 3, and hoping to copy that.

Look at going over the manifold and entering from the other side i have a intercooler that is bigger than evo and still have my reo in place

Or...buy my Legnum cooler...perfect solution all round. Will be able to keep reo, still have somewhat stock piping route AND be an upgrade over the GSR cooler.

Do what I did when I fit the EVO cooler and piping in

Cut the centre out but leave the sides

Its quite simple .... If you have a factory Evo cooler / piping and a E1 front bar cover as you say. All you need is the evo bar reinforcement to clear the pipe. Finding a s/hand one is not that easy normally without having to buy a complete bar. The part number for this MB909089

Look at the difference between a GSR bar reo and EVO bar reo in these pics and you will see why the GSR reo fouls on the top pipe.

Ah, so many options.

Thanks Progsr, thats the key bit of info i was wondering about.
The W2A setup is a very tempting idea,even with the few downsides. Has anyone had any real issues with one?

EVL20T, this is how my car is currently, but with all the new laws coming in up here, i just want to risk a defect. :( (Thats my main reason for sorting this out)

I was defected here in qld for having it cut behind my EVO bar cause the cop could see the 2 ends, probly should have cleaned it up so it wasn't noticable but oh well, but if you can't find a EVO reo you should be able to just remove the middle bracket as I have and the it sit right on top of the intercooler like this

Thanks Ian, might have to do this for now.

Im still undecided as how to move forward, though im seriously considering W2A, It just seems so efficient.
Thanks for the offers for parts guys, i may still be in need after i figure out whats best for me.
