Hi all this is a lazy mans question, can you change a set of rings in a '93 GSR fitted with a 4G63T by putting it on a hoist and removing the north-south cross member and sump or is that a pipe dream.

Just doing the rings and bearings, If the motor has to come out then so be it.

Doing the cam belt in the car is a giant pain in the arse I've had to do it 4 times now an have it down to a fine art but its still a fark of a job, mind you pulling the whole motor out isn't awesome either but a lot safer especially if you haven't done the cam belt on one of these before

Curious  . How do you do the bearings without removing the crank? Then how do you remove the crank without removing the flywheel/clutch/gearbox?

Is it possible to "pop" the bearings around the crank?

Besides, do the front and rear oil seals while at it.

Ive done bearings only rods and big ends without seals etc.

Basically to get the top bearings you can insert a split pin in a crank gallery exposing a only small tip, you then rotate the crank and it should push the bearing out. It was a tedious job especially on jack stands.

yank the motor and do the whole job.....head shouldnt go more than 250/300 anyway.....unless your going bigger valves. which incidentally I can say make a good difference .

I might even have some forged rods and pistons to flog if you are wanting to go the whole hog.

I am in perth so if you need any bits let me know.
