Ok ,for the battery..
Facing head on with the car,is the left terminal negative and the right positive?

Took the battery out an put it back in an got abit of a spark show going on.
Answer asap please.
Feel free to abuse as well.

Ok. By head on i mean by youre standing over the engine bay.
All seemed fine, until my spanner made contact between the positive terminal and the metal over the battery
Holding it in place, massive spark show.
Made me freak out,any idea as to why it is doing that?

Ok,putting the factory rubber boot piece over the positive terminal has stopped that sparking crap.
Hopefully its all good now an no fuses blew out lol

okay common problem here. This is not really a dumb question anyway.

Short description of how to remove/refit terminals

if you are removing your terminals- REMOVE EARTH FIRST, then positive

if refitting terminals- POSITIVE FIRST, then earth

power leaves the earth side of the battery and once charged the body is attracted to the positive. if you put the earth terminal on then the positive you can see that it sparks like a biatch

It just means that on initial contact, you have something that is drawing the current. Maybe you have your dome lights on? Because something is on, it will draw power straight away.

Very normal.
Tip: turn off everything and close your doors if you don't want the spark.

Also as clone said. Best to do +ve first and-ve last.
This also prevents shorting to the chassis when connecting +ve since -ve is not yet connected to the chassis.

Thanks for replies fellas..
Il do in that fashion next time clone :)
Thing was, nothing was on at ALL at the time.
Still sparked like a menace. Im starting to think something is draining the battery or it isnt holding charge...

Regardless,i have another somewhat dumb question but dont want to make another noob post so il just ask it here
an see how it goes.

if this is what you did, then you won't need anything to be on to create some sparks - what you have done is short the battery out from +ve to earth through your spanner.

Damn,is that bad oggy!? lol.

Yeh my other silly question is this..
I want to put an aftermarket blow off valve of some sort but my mechanic told me without an aftermarket computer (microtech etc)
it wont run right or something. I just want some noise ffs.

he's telling you bs but unless your running more than 10-15 pound you wont need an aftermarket unit. in saying that turbosmart kompact is a nice metal bov

He loves putting in aftermarket computers an harassing cars an i didnt buy this gsr for that.
I just want a noisey blow off valve, that isnt too much to ask...

nah, don't worry about it.
shorting a circuit out generally isn't good, but highly unlikely that you even remotely damaged anything mate.

you won't need an aftermarket ecu to run an atmo blow off valve. but you will need an aftermarket bov if you are venting to atmo, as the standard one will leak and make the car run like shit.

Thanks oggy,i have an aftermarket intercooler but still running the factory computer/airbox setup and the piping to the blow off valve is that factory plastic/rubber
Black piping.. Is it ok to put an aftermarket blow off valve to that junk?
Apologies in advance for the dumb questions.

i dont know, but others here might, if you put a pod filter on, you might be able to here the stock bov. someone also said if the factory bov is on backwards it makes more noise. i dont know if it has any detrimental effects.

more boost will make it louder too

do a baffle ectomy. pull off your front bar. pull that u shaped peice of plastic that curls back up and into the bay under the battery. and enjoy more intake noise shhhhhhhhhhhh pshhhhhhhhhhhh

you should be able to install an aftermarket BOV on the standard hose, you'll just need to measure the hose diametre and buy a bov size to suit. AFAIK its a pretty standard size though, from memory I installed a standard GFB atmo bov with no hassles at all.
you will have to block the hole in the turbo intake hose though. And block it well, the last thing you want is to suck the plug in (night night turbo).

If you run a pod with standard re-circ valve you can hear it, but its still pretty quiet. Not nearly as loud as a typical atmo.

Il keep ya's posted on what i end up doing.
