Hi Guys, are there any products out there?
I would like to modify one for the AMG so I can put in rubber mounts and get rid of the idle shake inside the cabin. But still want the motor to be tight on load.

Need a dampener that pulls instead of pushes.
Planning to use the firewall/strut towers to be the mounting point.

Let me know if you have any links.

I would think that anything that atatches the top of a shaking engine directly to the cabin will make it worse not better.
Why not put the balance shafts back in as that's what they were designed for, or go back to standard cams...

Imo

Angry engines, big cams and h/duty clutches make cars shake. If people dont want the noise and vibration of a performance engine under their bonnets then they should buy a hybrid Prius Baz!! lol. :p
Ive got prothane solid engine mounts and big cams and its not that bad. Yeah the idle's lumpy, the steering wheel and rear vision mirror vibrate, but its acceptable. Its really only noticable at idle and low rpm when off the throttle decellerating.... but I LIKE IT

How come a pull-type Baz? If your vibration is too excessive and unacceptible, you can locate a strut either in front or behind the engine depending where you have room.
You can always get one custom made by a strut maker. They can usually supply many different types of diameters and put as little or as much pressure in it that you need to make it spot on.

IMO strut tower mounts wouldn't really help, as most of the motion is front-back on an east/west motor. Also, even though it's a dampener... would it not just create another short path for the vibrations to the cabin? Most things mounted to the firewall make a shitload of noise in the cabin (mistakenly mounted my FPR on there and it was annoyingly noisy)

maybe a stupid reply...but would a small steering damper from a 4wd work in this application. They work in both directions

Solid/urethane front engine mount to stop the rocking and soft mount the passengers side, rear and gearbox... Took a lot of vibration out !

I'm not that familiar with 4wds Brian. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. I'm hoping, idle -let the rubber mounts absorb the vibration, on load when the motor starts to rock, damper will hold it in place.

With my prothane engine mounts the motor doesnt move much at all. What cams are in the AMG and what rpm is it idling at?
You could simply try upping the idle rpm a little to remove a bit of vibration if its pretty bad.

if you are going to try it, just make a rod with rubbers at each end.
old subarus have adjustable ones! they are a 6mm rod (maybe 8mm) with a thread at one end and a couple of like rubber washers and the other end is like a small shockie bush

yup as above Baz..

but Gear box, front and rear engine mount should be solid

Engine mount leave stock.. should do the trick....

i swap engine mount from solid to stock if i need to go for long drives....

I agree that is where most of the vibration and noise comes from. Easy enough to change out and try before going for dampeners.

Dampeners pending where they get mounted from experience will cause worse vibrations. And there is no where strong enough except strut towers or chassis rail to mount them. I used to solid/alloy mount all my turbo rotaries, what a nightmare !

You can run the damper from the passenger side engine mount to the strut tower or from the block/gearbox to the sub frame.

still wont to much bro... will just transfer vibrations directly to the chassis....

Vibrations on load is ok. Vibration while idling is annoying. I need the mounts to give while stationary, and to stiffen up when accelerating.

The top mount is the one that's meant to stop the engine tipping. I'd be making that one solid more so than others.

The only pull type dampner i have ever seen was on 1st gen magna automatics. They had a small shock absorber about 250mm long on the front roll mount. It was a pull dampner to take the shock out of gearchanges
