Hey guys, as some of you may have seen in my ride thread, i will be doing an evo swap in the next 12-18months.

Now I know that evo 1-3/vr4 engines are LH mount as evo 4-6.5 are RH mount(or other way around?)
I was just curious as to whether or not it would be a huge hassle to to do such modifications to have a evo 1-3/vr4 setup in a CE coupe? and what would be involved?
The reason for this is that the earlier engines/half cuts are a lot cheaper to find so im told.

Or am I better off just getting an evo4-6.5 half cut that will practically bolt straight in with the minor mods to have it complete?

with the amount of money you will spend to put the earlier 4G63 in, you probably could have just bought a later 4G63 and put it in. Plus it'll be a newer motor and less headaches

Evo 4 halfcuts are cheap as nowadays. I think there is a couple on ebay for <4k. Bargain i say.

Prob not gonna want to hear this, but it'll prob be cheaper in the long run, to sell the coupe and buy a AWD GSR.
Im all for conversion and have done quite a few now, but with the current prices, you could get a factory AWD turbo'd Lancer.

BTW its easier to use EVO4-6.5 , Just use as much as possible from the front cut, and Get the output shaft Locking peice from MEEK, there is a bit more to it but time and money will get it done.

its illegal to put an older model engine in a newer model car

sweet, thanks for input/advice guys.

HYP04 i can understand where you are coming from but i really want to do this, i have ever since i had my first lancer a few years ago. it will be worth it for me in the end and thats all that matters i think. but you are so right about how cheap it is to get your hands on a gsr these days.
i have other financial commitments at the moment.. im just trying to do a bit of research at the moment until i do have funds for the conversion. but yeah much appreciated!
