Just wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on any issues with evo 4's if they have any, like ayc and diff, driveline,gearbox.....are they reliable, or is it there something im gonna have to eventually fix?

Cheers

Jamie.

AYC is puss in E4's as it was the first model with it in they sorted out a lot of issues but the E5's most that own E4's have at some stage replaced AYC or complete running gear for 5,6 or 6.5 gear.
I'm not saying that you will have to if the cars in good condition you will be OK but as soon as some nice loads go through her you'll know what to expect.

I'd jump at the 5 though more reliable and more Tuff looking with the introduction of the rear flares and front pumped guards.

There's a E4 in a custom Blue colour going in adelaide for a steal of a price if your looking

:( Yeah the blue one in adelaide is what i was considering, i spoke to him and the car appears very well kept, i guess its a chnce you take, apparently the driveline has been inspected, serviced and o.k'd...its a nice looking car.

Stupid ayc, id replace it with an lsd, is that expensive?

The engine is around the wrong way :D.

Go get a VII Jamie. They're cheap cause they're ugly.

hahahah, lol, fu*k ur a funny bastard at times, here i am thinking your going to offer your wisdom, and u come out with that..

Youre right though, the VI's are ugly, and i dont want one cos of that!...VI engine and driveline is basicaly the same as IV anyway...aprt from ayc...

PS.Bonnet+carrier bearings=yours

Hey, I was being serious .

6's and 6.5's are NOT ugly, I think you did a typo there .

But seriously, If you can put up with the looks of a 7, then get one. They are getting fairly cheap (still out of my price range though) and they are a good base to start with. Most of the AYC bugs etc were ironed out and the 8 & 9 electronic goodies are compatible with them (Ayc controllers etc).

So basically if i buy a IV, be prepared to replace the diff.?
I was talking looks wise. not too sure about the mechanicals.
But I know the 4's have a couple known niggly issues

if you were in sydney id say the 4 is the shittest car in the world. but seeing as your in qld we are highly unlikely to be seen driving on the same road, so i think my individuality in my area is safe.

i wonder how many ppl who have talked down the 4 have actualy owned one? seems to be some strong bullshit opinions on them?

I can assure you I drive my car a fck load harder than most of the pansys running around in these cars, changing expensive tyres every 2 or 3 thou ks can assure you of that. ive also owned a NXR turbo with a brass button so I know what it means to have weak driveline.

the E4 is tough as IMO, im sure NO evo likes being rev dumped full stop. ive witness more than one E7 driveline pop in sydney in the last few months alone, must be way strong hey... or maybe it was just the driver..

number 1 advice tho, if your to get ANY evo, but the solid engine roll stopers and rear diff mounts.

if you want any more info about E4s or MY E4 PM me, im normaly on evoOZ, so you wont see me much on here.

J

what a load of horse shit! if something is gonna go wrong withit, then it will happen evo 4-6 alike....theyre the same shit.....4s are rare and better looking in theyre own way and 7s look a bit better cos theyre not as riced up.....theyre just more simpler dont u think? and for having bugs and probs........theyre still an evolution from the last model b4 them so they cant be that bad

ha, got me woried there, you were using sarcasm no doubt.........

lol sarcasm? was it evident in my comment?

mate ive got a friend with an evo 9 and have had a fair amount of exposure to evos lately, if i didnt have a 4 i would want a 2, just for pure 90s look.

the downside of my 4 is the inability to use MC MASSVIE width rims on it.. even normal rims need to be big offsets to clear the rear guards. but you get over it.

Im still having trouble piking your sense of humour? are you saying you do not like the IV im looking at buying (damiens car) or was it merely impied as a joke to say i wouldnt want you to buy it if you lived near me cos thered be another one on the road...?

Stock ones no good?

Ive seen solid mounts put in a car before, it basically destroyed it, drove horribly, increased NVH by about tenfold and actually ended up tearing welds from the chassis where the brackets mounted, was the worst mod ive seen done to a car. Your talking only of the roll stoppers correct? the front and the rear mount only.

The diff mounts, they might be a different story, though on a basically stock car, i couldnt see large benefits from upgrading the diff mounts? are they horribly weak from the factory?
