Help Support 4GTuner:

So what are your plans on the car?

Should meet up sometime!

The VR4 looks mint.

I know of about 4 - 5 galants on the road in VIC atm. LOL

Yea a little meet would be good !

Plans for now is to clean up the engine bay, will get the coil overs in over the weekend, replace engine mounts drop the wolf ecu in the bin and wait for something to break then will replace it with stronger parts !

Just my run around for now

I like the haltech and it's support ! But Ive read that autronic is pretty good on the 4bangers it will be up to who ever tunes the car at the end of the day ! from experience I'm swaying to a ps2000 haltech at the moment !

Feel free to sway me to autronic any info is good info !

I'm an Autronic / Motec fan myself.

I'm running an Autronic on my vr4.
I think the Haltech has just caught onto using VE which Autronic has been using for ages.

Either one is good but like you said, up to the tuner and what he is confortable with. No point getting the best ecu if the person operating doesn't know how to set them up correctly.

My Autronic example ;)

Using air temp compensation table to increase fuel + ignition based on intake temps.
They also have knock control for individual cylinder knock detection which will enable you to make power with the non knocking cylinders while retarding the knocking one.

I've seen approx 20kw's extra on the exact same engine config simply with the Autronic Knock Control module.

Standard knock control simply retards the full map so you end up making less power simply because one cylinder is letting the others down.

M84 is also the next budget choice from Motec. Never used it but I know that they are good. I'm using M4 in the AMG and that this is ancient but it still very good.

M84 doesn't support knock control but the m400/800 does.

The autronic and a rotary don't have a good track record at all... Don't know anything about the ignition side... What coils it will run ect...

Haltech platinum series are good and for the price make power and cruises well, think they support knock control but don't know anyone that has used it

Quick question bazeng...

I was thinking of pulling my block and gearbox out in a few months for a check and replace the internals with better parts !
Is there really a need to stroke a 4g63 ? How about revs ? How do 4g63's cope whith revs and boost ?

You run a 35r and it makes power easily ! That is my choice for a turbo...

M48 is the old motec you might be thinking of. M84 is the new budget m800/m400 built to compete with the autronic sm4. Rotaries and bursons are 2 different beasts. Microtech and wolfs are considered good for rotors but are somewhat unpopular with pistons. Once again it is all dependant on the tuner. 2.0l is good if you want to rev but you will need a box that will shift up top. Strokers are good because you dont have to rev to make power. Although the torque down low tends to break drivetrain parts. Id expect a 2.0l motor to last longer than a stroker also due to the reduced side wall pressure with the better stroke/rod ratio.

Oh and Autronics will pretty much run any coil setup. The new Sm4 and budget Sm3 will run our 4 clyinders in sequential or waste spark config.

M84 definately doesn't support knock control its only a budget entry level ecu from Motec !

Haltech is also plug and play but I suspect that my wiring is somewhat butchered and may need a new loom or a rewire to suit the ecu I choose !

It's between Motec/haltech for me now because of tuners mainly ! I will do more homework on the autronic over the next few weeks...

So you mean something that can shift up top needs a dog box ?

The gearbox will need to be built to shift ie Evo-00x / brisvr4 build. Just certain things need to be done.

This is how the vr4 stands as of now!

I had mixed ideas of selling everything and concentrating on my mazdas but after looking through what i paid for parts i might as well keep going. need to work out which way to go with engine will prob just go with a normal 2l
