Ok, i went and inspected this Evo 3 I been talking about for a few days (the whole roof rust thing etc)

Here is a link to the car.

GOOD
-Drove exceptionally well
-Interior is in great condition
-exterior and paint looked pretty good
-Roof looks good
-Fluids looked clean, japanese service history (stamps) can be seen in log.
-No signs of major smash, from what i could gather
-Its the real deal CE9a yellow plate.

BAD
-Bit of lifter noise on startup
-Clutch was sticking, weird, would pop out under its own force after around 5 seconds of letting it go (worn clutch master?)
-Underbody rust (appeared to be surface)
-slight knock in front reo on one side, and a small one in rear
-Evo 2 front bar! (why)
-clutch would slip when the slighest bit of force was applied, and had a very high take-up point.
-Bit of an oil leak onto front pipe

I know it seems like more bad than good, but in terms of things,

1.Is the rust superficial, or is that considered bad? The spare tyre well has copped a bit, does this look like north island salt abuse to you guys? I dont know enough, i havent seen many others so i dont know if this is normal.
2.Is that inlet manifold Evo 3?
3.The Fcon-s and hks evc are fitted, i dont know why...(s it because of the below point?)
4. The biggest concern........why is there an E2 Bar on it!, has it had a front end, and is that an E2 motor/whole front cut? i can get the engine number..if so, does anyone have engine code numbers to tell if it would be an E2 or E3 motor?
I had a good look around the seams of the chassis/rad support/headlights and it didnt show major front end damage signs....

Whats the exact chassis number on the firewall? Most important to tell Evo2 or 3.....
Does it match the yellow plate and the VIN? IE not dodgy import(regardless of the yellow plate)
Does it have the extra bracing behind the rear seat?
Why has it got a blue plate from QLD transport? IE what mods does it cover?
Were those round or flat side indicators?

Most of those issues seem minor to fix.

Pending engine and chassis numbers not too bad....

Ill get it but it was ce9a xxxx

not 100% but it was done at compliance

Flat

The rust a bad thing?

5000 Evo 2's were made and 7500 Evo 3's.

So it will depend on the chassis.

Rust you can get treated and fixed if it isnt too deep.

Treated, like they spray something over it?

The way it looks, i rekon its been driven on salt roads, see the driveshaft, it has dots of rust everywhere, its like salt has flicked all over everything, i couldnt see rust bubbling out of anything though.

More often than not- if it has a different front bumper on it then it has had a minor front accident. Got any interior shots?

All signs lead me to believe its an an evo 3 to me, has both fog light buttons, rear fog lights and the pollution gear in the engine bay

Here's what a real black EVO III looks like: http://4gtuner.com/site/showthread.php?t=3624

1. The underneath of the car should be inspected and if you get it you can easily high pressure blast and wire clean it and give it a good coat of underbody chassis paint for protection afterward.
2. Yes
3. The Fcon and EVC are added bonuses and are there for tuning purposes, nothing to do with the car at all :)
4. Dont worry about the front bar as sometimes if one gets damaged during shipping or whenever and you need a replacement bar its hard to find, or come up with the moolah for a genuine EIII bar so you settle for what you can find. Or erhaps they liked to have a different look :)

If it has what you say it does including welded braces on the strut towers, the X-brace behind the rear seat, rear windscreen wiper, intercooler spray button in the centre console, two fog light buttons above the drivers dash vent that both work for front and rear foggies, SR3 Recaro seats, climate control, front swaybar is connected to the struts and not the lower control arm, the lower control arm is a cast item with round circles in it, and god a few other ways to tell but getting into nitty gritty now. It looks like its got the goods if you check the above out and if the chassis number also checks out its the real deal (or a dman good copy lol).

Oh, and on the clutch issue I'd be reading up a bit on crankwalk in this forum to see if it shows any signs of it.

BTW-I have the engine and VIN

VIN-6U9000CE9A0109446
Engine #-4G63SE2609

They sound good? That an E3 engine number?

That was one of the first things that popped into mind when it happened, I will have the crankshaft end float inspected, ive done it before on other cars, it shouldnt be over 0.4

Could a shityy master cylinder cause that?

It has both buttons, I turned both on, the rear foglights came on...but i couldnt find the front ones....
It has an E2 bar...did they nit come with front foglights?

I noticed a plug disconnected down in the front corner of the front bar, maybe this went to the foglights

I didnt think E3's had front foglights anyway..?

On a side note, APC wull do a pre inspection for $205

That sound like robbery?..includes a ful compression test etc..take about 1-1.5Hrs, and theyll go over thye entire car.

If that CE9A0109446 matches whats on the firewall, id say crack your checkbook out!
Engine NO. not 100% sure....

Could be a shitty slave cylinder, master, worn out clutch if its slipping under load straight away, OR a combination of the 3.

Option on the 3's were the front foglights

I think liberoz has a post in this section to do with options, catalogues and parts.....search time....

Everythings starting to fit into place for you....

Ah Ok, wasnt aware the option for foglights was available

As i said, APC are gonna do an inspection, hopefully they know what theyre looking at, Id expect them to!

witht the clutch, if i slightly put my foot on it when driving it starts to slip, it could just be mega worn out..the gearbox felt healthy...

and im sure, but ill double check ..that the CE9Axxxx in the aus VIN matched the Jap Firewall VIn...

Does anyone know what the engine numbers should be?

A couple of petty things...

1/ You probably wont have a local tuner for the Fcon... there are very very few authorized HKS tuners in Australia (maybe as few as 2, and one is here in WA)
2/ This car has been for sale for months
