4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Is there much rust in the floor pan directly behind the wheels? That's usually a good indication of driving in a salted environment.

also check the firewall behind the clutch master and make sure it has not split, also pretty common

COuld that also be reason for the clutch issue? how do you fix that?

Good point, it didnt seem to bad, most of it was superficial..the spare wheel well looked the worst.

Easy fix. Weld it back up, and you can put an extra plate over it to increase the width and strength of the firewall in that area. Common problem been discussed on these forums quite a bit.

You are right, the ecu can be easily disconnected if needed.

And it diverts back to full standard ecu functions correct?

This is how i read it to be on the HKS website

you could always take the car to Neal Lowe for an inspection.. he is an evo specialist and is in slacks creek.. not sure how far that is to you though..

Re the clutch stuff

Does the pedal seem to be stuck when taking your foot off? I had something similar happen when I got my new clutch put in my E1, ended up just being pedal adjustment. I also got both master and slave cylinders replaced with new items, wasn't expensive at all and great for peace of mind.

Front driving lights were an option, I had them on my E1 from factory but one of my lights rusted so removed them a few years ago. I have the extra lights button for them on the top right of the console,. plus holes in the front mesh and wiring at the front for them.

I have a slight bit of surface rust on mine under the spare tyre well. Not really an issue and I'll wire brush and paint it one of these days. Fairly standard for early evos - dont think it would be too much effort to fix yours up and get it properly sealed.

Looks like an OK car. Being a black model, I'd probably get the roof rust checked out too a bit more thoroughly if you can.

I have seen some pics of other QLD Evo's that have the yellow plate with the blue QLD mod plate... so it might just be that they have to go through that process when imported.

When you take your foot off, it comes all the way up except for just an inch or so at the end, it doesnt slip when driving though, then a few seconds later, i hear a clunk, and it pops back out...

If the car didnt come witht them as a factory option, would it not have the button for it?

Yeh thats similar to what I had with the clutch, I had to actually lift it up the last inch or two, until it was adjusted. Still engaged and everything fine - just used to annoy heck out of me.

Driving lights, I have the same button as this car, the bigger one on the right should be for the front lights. My left buton is blank being an E1 with no rear foglights.

Thanks a ton for the replies so far...everyone is helping, thats great...just wondering still ifanyone can confirm the engine number as an E3?

Engine #-4G63SE2609

I would think it would matter weather an E2 or 3 motor, just get a comp test done on it, evo3 intake plenum has extra's on it so RA could run antilag function, evo2 didn't have this.

Some people (those with taste) prefer the way the Evo2 front blends with the lines of the car, rather than jutting out like some nasty aftermarket piece.

I think Id actually prefer the front of the E2 as well, just want the lower lip for it.
