Hi all, well ive just got my fulls and have got my car on the road and finished pretty much following the basic mods path.
My vr4 was stock and have done the usual like intake, afm, 16g, injectors, pump, ecu.
Well my last steps were to put in the 560's and get the ecu chipped and once doing so the car ran fine, but blew alot of smoke once boost kicks in(way to much smoke and it stinks), and it chews an extreme amount of petrol

So i had a look around to see if everything is right when i noticed the fpr was out of whack, i mean it was on something like 48psi+, so this was about 4 days ago, and ever since i have to regularly re adjust my fpr, it doesnt always go up in psi, it has fallen aswell and i know when its out, i dont feel it happen but the car doesnt run right which therefore i have to pull over and re adjust, the fpr moves out of position randomly, i dont know what causes any of this to happen.
I dont have a afr guage or wideband at the moment and car hasnt been tuned, i had a fellow forum member help me out with the chip and at the same time had the evo scan hooked up to it and said everything seemed good besides the tps.
The obvious guess would be the fpr is stuffed, i have a drift brand guage on the fpr and its already started to get stress crack looking cracks on it
I thought something else besides the fpr could cause this
Also would my tps being at around 19% have any part in all this? I have to adjust it sometime soon.
I dont know if its any relvance but could a atmo bov cause any of this?
Could it be anything else or is there anything i can do?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks Andy

Ive read that twice after a few beers and cant see what brand of fpr you are running.
If its somthing like a malpassi some of their models at least rise at a 1.7 :1 ratio not 1:1. So it'll be out of whack.

And the TPS im pretty sure is meant ot be around 11 or 12% when you read it with the logger. Goes up in like .3 incriments, my car idles sweet when its at 11.7 if i remember right.
I have cams, but another bloke has a pretty stock engine and he said the same when we were adjusting it together.

Atmo bov will puff a cloud of black smoke when you change gears, as it runs rich as the measured air in the intake is dumped, so too much fuel is squirted in.

Sounds like your FPR, once set you should not be re-adjusting it.
Unless you fuel pump have issues, blockage, voltage fluctuation to pump, ect.

It is a malpassi, it was given for free. I think its 1:1
I do think it is the fpr aswell, i am definately getting rid of the atmo bov today for starters, then going to set the tps.
Fuel pump is new aswell and purchased from a fellow forum member.
It doesnt blow smoke on changing gears it happens when boost kicks in.

The malp is probably 1.7:1, also a lot of malp's are known to be faulty after a year or two so depending on how old it is?

Might pay to swap to a SARD or Aeromotive one.

See my post over at galantvr4.org.au .
That Tomei looks like a rebadged Sard.
It will cost you about $145 shipped and you can pick up a decent Aeromotive unit on Ebay for around $200au shipped. I spotted a few on there just now.

There was alot of fpr knock offs when i was looking for sards on ebay.
Just got to try look for somone with solid feedback and 'claims' that they are genuine.

They are a simple design but id want a fpr i know is reliable, too low fuel pressure on boost may cost a motor.

Just buy it from your local gofastbits store. Ebay isn't always trustworthy in that respect. I bought mine from revolution racegear, they have stores all over vic.

Just got my new sard fpr today and installed it, that mallpassi was screwed hard, it ended up getting out of adjustment atleast twice a day.
I have the sard set at 40psi, and when it idles it sits on 32 psi, does that sound right?

Stock vr4 fuel pressure would be 36 psi correct. as per the manual...

Are you guys running higher pressure as the 560's do when in the evo's? I remember reading the evo works shop manuals, but cant remember the pressure.

Stock vr4 pressures.
Fuel pressure regulator
Regulated pressure kPa (psi)
<Non-Turbo> 335 (47.6)
<Turbo> 255 (36.3)

Putting 36psi through an aftermarket regulator is an instant way to lean out and make your engine explode. Set it to 41. 42 is for e3's. You can set it as low as 39 depending on how much boost you're running.

no offence to you guys but running a fpr is really just a band aid technique to making up for small injectors... seriously i know people who run the stock fpr and run 10s.... 11s.. all day everyday.

Ok guys i have a problem, today i drove it a fair bit and it goes out of setting again, i am so annoyed with this situation.
Let me go through exactly step by step what i have done,
Firstly after the fpr is ready to set with vacuum off, i adjust it from the top till it reads 41psi on the gauge,
Secondly after it set at 41psi i put the vacuum hose back on then rev it, it hits 41psi, with a hard rev it goes past 41psi by about 2 or 4 psi
With vacuum on it sits on 32psi idling.
So when i hit my destination today(50km's) i popped the bonnet and had a look at the guage, the fuel pressure had dropped and it was 38psi with vacuum of, i revved it and it hits 38psi aswell.
The car does feel very laggy,
I had my injectors cleaned by my mates shop before putting them in, and the walbro was purchased brand new from a fellow forum member, i am really confused at what could be causing this!!!
Also if this helps, the needle on the guage flickers when its on idle slightly, 1 psi either way, and also when i sit in the car on idle, i can feel the revs moving up and down slowly and sometimes the revs will drop to about750rpm then up to 1100rpm sometimes, and this is in my opinion when the fpr is moving out of adjustment.
I have done nearly everything on this car from stock to what it is bymyself and id hate to chuck it into a shop now if it might be something like a fault on my behalf or a product. Any help much appreciated guys :D

it depends on the injectors, not the car/motor. hence if you swapped to the e3 510's, you'd run 42psi as well. If injectors are rated to 560cc at 42psi, you can hardly expect to see the same at 36.

Running an aftermarket fpr on a vr4 with stock 450cc VR4 injectors at stock pressure isn't going to lean out or kill anything. Compensating for 560's with a chip and running them at stock fp will cause you to lean out though.
