Yea the speedo is a little hard to read although not as hard as it looks from the photo. It's never really bothered me here in Japan, probably as there aren't cops on every corner so I never really look at it.
The roof has bad paint blistering, I'll get some photos up soon.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you need to do a bit more research as to personal import laws.

You can't sell it as soon as you arrive, there's a minimum period of ownership once it arrives here, the car would be confiscated and chopped in two if you did (not that the rego authorities will let you transfer the rego).

Go do some reading on DOTAR's website.

Entaran, thanks for the information, but in all of my research and having read the Dotars site once again, I have not come across any regulations relating to the sale of personally imported cars. From my understanding they can be sold as any normal car can be sold. If this is not the case, if you could provide the details of where to find more information, then I would be much appreciative.

If you sell it to someone in Victoria, you'll need to satisfy Vicroads stated minimum period of ownership after importation which is either 6 or 12 months (can't exactly remember!) from the time it was first registered in Victoria (in your name).

Selling a personal import prior to it's initial registration but after it's been gold plated is a "grey" area in the law and can cause the car to be blacklisted in Vic (which also applies to SA/NSW and QLD Blacklists due to interstate policing agreements).

I could be missing something, but having just read the pages to which you refer, my understanding is that it doesn't say that it needs to be owned continuously for 12 months in Australia, which essentially means that the twelve month ownership period could be whilst you owned the car whilst it was in Japan. I may be wrong on this, but I can't see where it says that the 12 month ownership needs to be in Australia. Please correct me if I am reading it incorrectly.

If I am right in what I am saying, then he is free (subject to him owning the car for the minimum length of time in Japan ie 12 months) (and subject to any other issue that Entaran has raised) to import it and sell it straight away.

Entaran, thanks for the reply. This will be the first time I personally import a car so all the help I can get is invaluable.
The information on the Dotars website I am familiar with and lists no ownership requirements once the car has been given import approval. The car will be initially registered in South Australia in my name and then sold. I found this(see link at bottom) information on the vicroads website, and it doesn't specify ownership rules once the car has been imported. To be fair, to obtain import permission you may be asked to prove you are returning to Australia with the car, which I plan to do at Christmas.

Have recieved import permission for her so if I can get her on the next boat she will be in Australia on December 2nd.

Have edited and included pictures of the roof and rust. She is going on the boat tomorrow and should be arriving on December 4th.
Also having looked at the market, it looks like $25g is pricey for a 3, so I am open to reasonable offers.

doesnt this car need to be complianced before it can be sold within Australia? In Victoria I know that they used to have a legislation which stated the only way a car can be imported into Australia without a compliance plate was if it was being brought in for the sole purpose of being wrecked.

Other than that how much is it going to be sold for once it meets Austrlian Vehicle standards???

ooooh yeah, a genuine evo 3 and in black :twisted: We had a new roof put onto our car and was $660 for a new roof turret and I think all up it cost us about $2000 to get done at a friend's panel shop for fitting and painting and blending in. Some places quoted a lot more so just bare in mind minimum someone will need to pay for the roof replacement because you cant just grind and bog and repaint them - they have to be replaced otherwise the rust comes back (as soon as you get rust bubbles showing on the roof it's too late, the underneath will be totally consumed) :roll:

You can do a sheetmetal repair, but it's like chemotherapy for cancer. It's why we call rust cancer... becuase you can get rid of it and it just comes back somewhere else.

Thanks for all the interest in my little black beast!! Here goes at addressing some of the issues raised. If there is anything else then please post.
As far as compliance/registration goes, here is the story: It has been approved as a personal import so it has different compliance regulations to cars imported under the 15yr old rule and SEVS. Once it passes vehicle inspection it is fitted with personal import plates which enables it to be registered just like any other car. The first person to register the car must be the person who imported it, ie. me, which means I will have go through the compliance and vehicle inspection process and get it registered, so buying this car will be just like buying any other used car.
The roof: once the car arrives I will get a quote to have it repaired and will either take this off the price if someone is willing to buy as is or will have it repaired, like is stated in the ad.

Received the Bill of Lading from the shipping company today which means she is now on her way to Australia. Will be arriving on December 19th, all going to plan.
