Garage added

A new application - called Garage - was added, and is accessible from the top level tab menu. It allows you to add and keep track of your vehicles and modifications. This is a show-n-tell and not classifieds, but you can link to it from the Marketplace if you want. Anyone can view the Garage, but only Paid & Active members will be able to add vehicles (like the Marketplace forums)
During the intro period, we will feature the new Garage cars on the front page.

Some of the features of the Garage system include:

- Topic view integration, so members with vehicles will have a link to their garage in posts they make.
- Discussion topics for vehicles added. Every time you add a vehicle a new Topic will be created in the 'Members Rides' forum.
- Rating system
- Social bookmarks
- Owner selected images, vehicle owners can select an image they want to be shown when a thumbnail of their vehicle is displayed.
- Type-ahead search ability in the manage vehicles, images, modifications and comments pages. So you can quickly search for a members vehicle.
- Members can add, edit and delete there own vehicles, modifications and images.
- Upload multiple images for each vehicle or modification added.

Hey. Having prOblems uploading images from my iPhone to the garage. Also can it be linked with my current thread (which I started yesterday)

may i suggest owners of cars added to the garage voluntarily amalgamate their members ride/build thread into their cars garage thread in members rides

I will test the iPhone later today. The Garage system was automatically creating new threads in the 'Rides' section. This was polluting the forum, and we decided to disable this feature. I also deleted some of the already created threads (if there was no follow up discussion).

Can you actually get to the Garage from your iPhone? When I tried on mine there was no link to the Garage. The same with other of our apps: Members, Calendar, Chat, Gallery, Store, Garage. None of them was accessible from my ipod. The mobile skin doesn't support them. I will send an email to the Garage developer if he can fix this for us.

Um if I clicked on a members vehicle it could take me to garage. But I used my oboes safari to fill it all out.

Great suggestion. I got confused at first, but now I think the automatically created thread (when you add a new vehicle to the garage) is really useful. The title makes sense, and it is automatically linked to the Garage and from the Garage. No matter how you find the vehicle you can easily navigate between the garage and the discussion. I restored all the Vehicle posts back to 'rides' - you can now link to your old ride/build threads. Hope it makes sense.

Jase suggested that we - as moderators - use the 'post merge' functionality to amalgamate old rides with the cars in the garage. I will look into this when I get some more time....

I figured out how to merge posts and maintain the link to/from the garage. If you want your posts merged, simply reply to your garage created post with the link to your old ride/build topic. I will scan the forum from time to time, and manually merge topics.
I already did this for Gianni, you can see the merged post here and the garage here. Both are linked now, and the duplicate post was removed. Thanks for the suggestion Jase!

Suggestion to perhaps have another sub section for the 'Garage' and separate from 'Member's Rides'?
I actually like reading bout the member's rides blogs and now seems a little congested with the 'Vehicle' there too?

Yes, the duplicate posts are confusing. I am merging the 'garage' topics with the old 'member rides' topics to remove the duplication. Already done that for a couple of vehicles.
If you want your posts merged, simply reply to the garage created post with the link to the old ride/build topic. I will scan the forum from time to time, and manually merge topics.
