Hi guys, I know this type of thread has been done over and over esp. with our Galant's and the notorious problem of GL5 lubricants "eating" the synchronisers.
Although I was at the local autobarn and came across a 75-90W "Royal Purple" gear oil. I'd never heard of it before.
So my question to you guys in the know is, what type of gear oil would you suggest for my car? The gearbox is a 3.545 VR4 box converted to FWD via welded centre diff. (not really important info I know but anyway), has a Quaife ATB Front LSD in it, (I am told by Quaife that there is no requirement for special LSD lubricant as it's a mechanical LSD) and it's been re-built 5,000km's ago.
So far I just used a generic Valvoline duragear or something for the initial break-in period.
Suggestions so far -
- Castrol Syntrans
- Redline MT90
- Motul Gear 300
- and the guy at autobarn was pretty sure that this Royal Purple 75-90W would work nicely for me, he reckons it's better than motul and redline, but then again he referred to the GVR4 as an import so he might not know as much about them as you guys, which is fair enough. I dunno if it's GL5 though. On the bottle it said it was suitable for both GL4 and GL5 applications, which is the reason I'm asking you guys.
I appreciate any input you guys have to offer.
Thanks.
