hey there!

i have recently blown my gearbox up in my vr4 powred nimbus and i was just wondering what the average cost of having a standard box strengthened?

and how far would i have to go with the box to support around 150-200 kilowatts at the wheels (150 kw ATW on 13PSI last dyno , but running 15 psi now, so maybe 170) :?

would i need to have the shell of the box treated some how to make it structurally stronger?

also would there be any other boxes that utilise the cable clutch and cable shift mechanisms....coz theyre mostly hydraulic clutch with cable or rod shifting....

cheers guys!

kaya. :D

I know you've got cable clutch but it wouldnt be too difficult to convert to hydraulic as I've just converted an auto CC Lancer to Manual and it was pretty damn easy. Once you got the hydraulic clutch setup sorted, how about running an EVO 2/3 box running in FWD mode. Speak to Meek or Mr Gears a bit more about it as Ive been told he has the bits in stock and dont cost much at all. Some of the evocoupe boys use them in their AWD boxes to run in FWD and love it as the LSD is worth every cent and after driving my brother's EVO powered FWD coupe I cant see why anyone wouild not want to run the evo boxes in them as it has made a huuuuuuuge difference to traction and strength  You get the benefit of the EVO box which has double synchros, steel selector forks and viscous LSD

It has been such a long time since I have looked at a UC Nimbus. I think it has a similar box to a TM Magna. I this is correct, then you really do need to change the box for something more modern. But I think the chassis rails are to close together to fit a VR4 or EVO box. I am not in the position to confirm any of this information.
I think the most practical box to look at would be the TN-TP Magna. This has cable shift and hydraulic clutch. This is the biggest FWD box and the cheapest (still no idea wether it will clear the chassis rail) sorry I can't be of more help.
