Had this issue for a while now and wondered if I could get some opinions on it. My gearstick has a good 2" of play/slop of front-back on it which is really frustrating. Have replaced the bushes with the Cusco shift linkage kit but that didn't do anything for this sort of play. Is there any way I can tighten up the shifter on the gear linkage cables so that I don't get as much play?

I have this same sort of problem in my CC Coupe shitter haven't really worried about it because it still changes gears fine but have thought it might be the bushes in the ball joint/arm it pivots off...i was just going to go to the wreckers and get another whole stick and the frame around it..hoping that would fix the problem but keep me posted to see if thats what you have to do.

your best bet is to replace the cups and plastic washers on the shifter
arms. I did this when I fitted the short shifter and it made a massive difference.

my shifter has no play at all, any movement of the stick moves the cable.

I bought them all from mits and they are the same as normal cc lancer ones.

Forgive me for being dumb, but are you meaning the washers and such inside the car itself, or in the engine bay near the tranny? Am assuming the former but just wanna be sure.

i am talking about the ones inside the car on the gear lever itself....not the base.

on the bottom of the actuall lever there is a cup, there are also plastic washers on the spring setup in the base too.

Cheers for the quick reply. Will have a look when I get in from work tonight, and report back (possibly with some photos of it all).

i know i have a couple of spare ones in the shed in the bags still
with part numbers on them.

the one that made the most difference was the cup on the base of the lever itself.

There's a little square nylon bush in the shifter linkage thats bolted on top of the gearbox too. They wear out as well so get a new one of them whilst you visit Mitsu spare parts.

Checked out my gearstick today and it seems to be missing more bush than Annette Schwarz! I'm just missing that cup bush and a couple of others too. Will be ordering them tomorrow and looking forward to things stiffening up, so to speak.

if it is missing all together it will be very direct when you get them back in.

tbo I was quite suprised how much better it was.

You mean the plastic bushes near the spring bit, or the ones either side of that wrist-pin type thing? If it's the latter then those aren't even there!

The one on the right. I replaced the two in there and it made a phenomenal difference.

Any chance you can post up the part numbers please dougmo? i'll get some of these when i get around to it in a week or 2.

ok I found one of the part numbers which i think may be for the lever like the pic hypo has posted.

they are called "bushing gear shifter"
