Will be taking the GSR over the pits this week with a bit of luck, (1995 model) and just wondering if there are any tips/common problems I should keep in mind so this car an actually get rego'ed!
What are some common problems you guys have had to deal with when getting your vehicles inspected? :)

The Pits inspection is just a more thorough roadworthy inspection. Usually best to undergo with nil, if not minimal modifications done to the car.
If it leaks oil forget about passing the inspection. A normal roadworthy inspection is usually lenient in this regard because you can plead ignorance, but for the Pits inspection its a BIG deal as you are going for registration.
Ensure all the usuals work properly... wipers, water sprayers, indicator lights, handbrake, brakes, brake lights, reverse lights, low and high beams, horn etc. PLUS, ensure the seatbelts retract fully and are not freyed, steering wheel isnt torn, carpet isnt torn or worn under the driver's feet, you have all the rubbers on the clutch and brake and accelerator pedals, seats arent torn, seats are mounted well and dont move excessively. A tip is to clean the car right up and make it look very presentable and clean when going for a pits inspection. Even a set of cheap ass car mats inside to cover torn carpet is a good idea. If you have rips in the seat just use a seat cover, rips in the steering wheel use a steering wheel cover. If you have leaks or blows smoke, give it a good degrease and hi-pressure clean before going for inspection and use some thicker engine oil and engine oil Stop-Leak.

it is a bit strange really but they last two GSRs I have registered the examiner has asked for an engineers certificate for the awd conversion.

There was a young fellow here the other day that was just knocked back at the pits for cracked bushes on the rear diff mounts. ....and a passenger side engine mount that has nothing wrong with it.

If you want to organize a movement permit and bring it here ....I can have a look over it for you. Out of work at present so plenty of spare time

Leading on from where Brian was (kind of) heading - almost every single time they will knock you back for something. 99% of the time it is for legitimate reasons that the driver wouldn't have noticed because they are not sticking their head under their car every week.

MMmm .....the link takes to to a gearbox rebuild of a Harley gearbox. It was interesting but probably some thing I wont be doing anytime soon

Well. The GSR went down to welshpool this morning. Failed inspection for a couple of reasons, but mainly because the guy wanted Engineering certificates for: The AWD conversion, the Turbocharger and the "bigger engine (1.8L)" because he thought it was originally a FWD NA 1.6L  Looks like theres some work to be done before it goes in again on friday...

that is exactly what I was saying above....they didnt believe tis car exists. First question...do you have an owners manual? yes...use this to prove the car was sold in australia. No....then come and borrow one from me...and use it for the same reasons.

also curious as to the examiners name....pm me if you have it.

I can give you the name of the head honcho at welshpool examiners office if you need it.

How did you get yours over the pits?

Also, the inspector "Used to work for mitsubishi, and all those lancers were 1.6L Front wheel drives!!"

Ive put a couple over and been told these cars don't exist. an owners manual changed their minds.

he should be able to run the chassis number and tell what it is....I have even had them registered with the 4g63s

sounds like he worked for Mitsubishi during a period of heavy drug abuse in his life.....was it the tall guy? scott...or the bloke that has had nose and face surgery recently?

Geez theres some fuktards out there. If there were people like him working for Mitsubishi, no wonder the plant went belly up.
You sure your car chassis number isnt a GL or GLXi Lancer sedan that has been converted to GSR? Wouldnt be the first time thats happened.
He should have acess to Dotars info online etc if he bothered to look.

well the engraved chassis number on the firewall blatantly has CD5A on it so I have always assumed it was a GSR factory... And im pretty sure the previous owner would not've had the intelligence to perform work like that, considering he didn't even change the engine oil. ever.
