ok i went n had a look at this half cut evo2... it had 95km on it... their was no rust or anything, it was perfect... i have a 95 GSR with a 1.8L motor which has fried rings... i wanna put the evo motor in since the motor is taken out... will the EVO 2 motor fit straight into my gsr without making any modifications? or its just not that easy? like will the gearbox's be the same as the gsr? engine mounts? it all looks the same but i didnt think it would be that easy? is their a catch to doing this? Thanks

obviously Im not gonna be one to directly tell u conversion process...

In comparison to a vr4 cut I belive the goodies from an evo cut like the box/trubo/driveshafts/injectors.. everything etc will do u the goods from what ive read on here...

But before u jump in the evo deep end....

dont forget Evo's have is it a 7 bolt bottom end??....
which are alot rarer then the vr4(6 bolt??) bottom ends.. :?
i dunno what the difference will end up making in terms if soemthing ***** up like evolutionarys thrust bearing or whatever it was...

But anyway im gunna shut up and let let the others guide u on the conversion process

..kyall

7 bolt motors arent really rarer than the 6 bolt ones.

1G are 6 bolt (VR4)
2G are 7 bolt (EVO123)

7 bolt motors are more prone to crankwalk, which is their only major downside.

An EVO half cut would be a lot easier than a VR4 one if you want to do a conversion.

The crankwalk issues tend to only apply to the US built 2G 7 bolt engines. The Japanese seemed to put their engines together better. Ive only heard of ONE case of crankwalk on an Evo 1-3 here in NZ. (The land of the Evo )

The Evo 7 bolt engine will be an easier conversion for sure. Uses almost exactly the same wiring loom as the GSR. The Engine mounts are the same bar the one on the passenger side where you need to use the Evo mount. Dont bother changing it to the Evo gearbox, the GSRs is every bit as strong bar the selector forks, and unless you're VERY rough on your gearbox or putting out in excess of 400hp it'll be fine. Plus you'll get the benefit of having the GSRs slightly taller gearing and wont have to use the Evos rear diff to keep the ratios the same.

mad thanks so much... i heard all i would have to do is use my same wireing loom as the gsr but extrend like the alternator wiring n maybe a few others... good well least i can buy the half cut by next week... thanks guys, anymore help would be good...

or depends where the half cut loom was cut from front to rear just swap over the compleate evo loom and plug it into the rear halfs loom and you get the climate control and dont have to extend the alt wiring

climate control rocks :D

just out of interest, didnt you say your 4G93 is fully forged?

if so, whats the point of starting all over again with a 4G63 if the hard yards have already been covered with your current motor?

If its your rings that are fried, just get them replaced?

yeah but i always wanted a evo 3 so this is the closest i will get to one atm... i know its point less... but i cant be stuffed ripping my motor apart... if its fired the rings this time... whats stopping it from doing it again??? also i'm not 100% sure if its still the rings... but their is no knocking in the motor ONLY smoke but oh wells... i dont know i would rather a 2L...

OMG!

Youre binning a forged 4G93 to go for an UNforged Evo 4G63? A Forged engine will have much more potential than a 2nd hand imported engine with who knows how many kays on it!

DO THE RINGS!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Shh, quiet you.....that engine would go nicely in my car. :D

mmmm yeah i know what u mean... but i dont know what other damage is done, i prob will need new pistons, n i always wanted a 2L... not selling motor, i am fixing it all up myself as a spare... wouldnt be worth selling as is... wouldnt get my money worth on it...

yeah 1.8L all the way.. i'm hoping to run mid 12's at heathcote in my car if i get everything done before then..

SxyGsr I am with you. 2L is the way to go. Much more potential. Look to the future don't just think about in a months time.

Go on you know it would be worth selling to me.

grrr now i'm having my ups n downs... i can spend $4000 on rebuilding mine EVEN stronger, or the $4000 to buy the half cut... so many ppl telling me different ****... is the EVO motor Strong??? will it gain more power then a 1.8L? like how come evo's run 12seconds n ****? is it cause its a 2L or cause its worked off its tits? my gole is to make mine 12 seconds, then i'll be happy... but i dont wanna do all this work to my motor n it makes 13.6 or something...

Dude, stock 1.8lt engines run 13's. Mine was so close i got a 14.000, and the only mods to it were 3" dump pipe back exhaust and evo3 cooler. If i had some better suspension so it wouldn't squat so bad off the line then it easily would have pulled a 13 sec quarter. Personally i like the 1.8lt and i would like to build one up later on, unless you wanna sell me your already forged one for cheap.

But it's really a te each their own sort of deal. If you've always wanted a 2lt engine in the car then why hold back if you've got the money to do it now? You don't want to be down the track and still be unhappy with your car because of something you didn't do. Your choice mate, don't let any one else influence it but you.

well i got a 1.8L with a td05 big16g with argo rods and all that jazz.. it's run a 12.9 but is capable of mid 12's.. put on a bigger turbo and low 12's are reachable..

since you 1.8L is already filled with goodies i'd go that path.. my 2 cents..

Id stick to the 1.8 too. Only cos yours is worked already.

If youre starting from scratch, the 4G63 has more potential mainly cos of its larger displacement, but also aftermarket parts availablility. <---Thats the only reason im going the 2L route.
