So can someone please shed some light on why my car won't start. it just keeps cranking but never turns over. It has spark, pulse, fuel pressure is around 40-45psi, timing is correct , earth is good there is fuel in the tank and battery is over 12v. Even tried using aerostart and that didn't even make it turn over. firing order is correct and i was running before just all of a sudden won't start now, can anyone give me some suggestions on what to try or what might be wrong with the car.

check your compression if you've got spark injector pulse and fuel. it should fire unless there an issue with the valves headgasket etc.

so run a compression test it should be over 120 on all 4.

yea tell me about it, half tempted to just tear it all apart and just slowly build it into a track/weekend car

You say "it just keeps cranking but never turns over." but I am not sure what that means; is the starter motor turning the engine over and its just not firing ?

If that is the case, and you say you have spark and fuel, it should fire; are you absolutely sure fuel is getting out of the injector into the cylinder?

If its not firing it has to be missing fuel, or spark, at the right time... stating the bleeding obvious I know but you have to be missing something if it is not firing!

If you have fuel and compression then it's got to be spark. Just need to go through what generates the spark in the system to try and root cause:
  • Coil pack OK?
  • Trigger wire for the ECU is wired in OK? (I think it's white with a red trace but double check this!!);
  • Spark plugs not gummed up and are they gapped correctly?
  • Check for any blown fuses or faulty relays;
  • Do you have the right starter module (the gold box that is screwed to the vertical frame behind the center portion of the dash)?
  • Have you changed the injectors? If they are too different to stock then the ECU trigger time for them might not be matched (I had this issue when I put bigger injectors in my car and the ECU settings had to be modified);
  • Do you get "reds" on the cluster when you key on to accessories? Just trying to understand if there's anything faulty in the ignition setup.

Get a new plug. Disconnect any lead from a plug and connect it to the new plug. Ground the plug on cam cover and turn the starter to the crank the engine. If you get spark in the gap of the new plug. Yes you have spark!! But till you see it don't assume it's there. Now remove all spark plugs. Tip about 20 ml of petrol into each bore. Put NEW plugs in. If you have spark it will fire. If it fires and stops. Fuel supply issue

You have no spark for sure.
If it wont fire on the ether then there is no spark or it is in wrong timing.

As brian says. Or put a timing light on it. You will need to do it anyway. Cylinders 1-4 will show correct mark, 2-3 will be 180º out.

yea got new plugs in and even did the spark plug test thing with the screw driver and they all had spark, I'm gonna change over my coil pack from my vr4 motor or my 93p in my lancer see if that does the trick

  • Coil pack OK? coil pack checked and working 100% switched it with my lancer one and it started my car so its not the coil pack
  • Trigger wire for the ECU is wired in OK? (I think it's white with a red trace but double check this!!); Everything going into the ecu seems to be fine but haven't had a chance to check around the engine
  • Spark plugs not gummed up and are they gapped correctly? spark plugs are clean but not sure what they should be gapped at.
  • Check for any blown fuses or faulty relays; gone over fuses and relays seem fine but will spend more time tomorrow on them
  • Do you have the right starter module (the gold box that is screwed to the vertical frame behind the center portion of the dash)? E8T08471 and 3Y 19 is whats written on the starter module
  • Have you changed the injectors? If they are too different to stock then the ECU trigger time for them might not be matched (I had this issue when I put bigger injectors in my car and the ECU settings had to be modified); Injectors are standard items so I cant see them being a problem, unless they are faulty.
  • Do you get "reds" on the cluster when you key on to accessories? Just trying to understand if there's anything faulty in the ignition setup. reds come on the dash when key is turned to on but accessories nothing comes up.

Is the injector pulse module thing connected on the firewall?? make sure the plug is pushed it properly

put some fuel in the bores and try it...if you are sure it has spark it should fire and run for a short time. IF it doesnt ...you have no spark at the plug. If it runs and stops...fuel issue

ill try this tomorrow, im fairly certain its a spark issue, im guessing if it doesn't start and turns out to be a spark issue easiest thing to do would be hook up to diagnostics computer

haha after all that time and effort and some money (not a whole fortune but enough to make you want to keep the car) that went into the car sadly im stuck with her for life! or if someone offers me a stupid amount of cash
