Help Please: 5th gear forward and back movement when accelerating

Hi All
Just yesterday after a heavy launching, I notice my 5th gear alternate between accelerating and engine breaking. The gear shifter moves back and
forth about 3/4 of an inch. It looks like the gear shifter has popped out or slipping, but it still in gear and still accelerate fine. I tried it with all the other gears, but no movement. Only in 5th.

I check the shifter linkage, and they seem to be ok. I'm assume its my transmission mount but haven't had the chance to check it yet.

Has any1 come accross this problem before? Any help would be great.

My vote is for the nut that holds 5th gear on. Check everything else then pop the end cover on the box. I'll bet that the nut is loose!

thanks guys...I'll try and see if I could open it myself and check all the bolts.

Check the condition of all your rubber gearbox, crossmember and engine mounts whilst you're at it.
The engine could be excessively moving forward and backward on and off load.

yeah, I jacked the car up b4. All mounts are good. Also remove gear shifter console to check the linkages+undress bonnet linkages. They are fine.
Next is to open gearbox to check the bolt...got Diaqueen ready.
