So I'm putting An Evo 3 cluster into a cc coupe. Everything works fine except park brake comes up as a warning light instead of P. And the tacho.

How do I get the tacho running. My old one ran fine (it was next to the windscreen. I ran it off the coil pack. But where do I run that wire now

did your car used to be a 1.5?

if so you will need to change the wiring for the tacho signal.

just dont ask me how

Yeah. It used to be 1.5. But I had a did tacho running. Wouldn't I run that sane wire to the tacho pin on the new cluster?

The GL's dash wiring doesnt support the cluster.. if you want the cluster to work then you will need to change the dash loom

Cool. What does that consist of. Is that just the engine loom. Do u have a link to any walkthroughs

You're better off ripping out the old loom and putting in a full EVO wiring setup. That way your tacho, cluster lights etc will all work perfectly.

From memory you can change the side wing of the cluster to one from a GLXi. Im pretty sure on the GLXi cluster the "P" for park brake in is the position of where the warning light is on the evo clusters. ie just swap the left side wing over to a GLXi one so when you pull up the handbrake, the handbrake light works.
Also there is a sticky and several discussions on sohc vs dohc tacho wiring in the evocoupe forum. Guys have used tacho modules to get them running. Its something an auto-eleccy can do.

Thanks guys. ATM not overly fussed about hand break cable light. Coz I know what it means if it cones on. Ha ha ha. Where is a good place to get that loom. If I got that loom theoretically I should be able to find tacho on that too yeah?

Btw it's a dohc 4g63 so tacho should work straight up once it's wired in. Its calibrated to that motor?

If you want to go to the hassle of changing the loom but it may interfere with wiring for other things. Things like radiator fans, radiator temp sensor, aircon may be effected depending on what loom you get.
In short, do some research on evocoupe forum on "tacho module" and you'll find some useful info. As mentioned, you could spend some $$ on another loom and have other problems surface, or you can probably get a tacho module fitted and installed for $120 or so to solve your problem. Read up on your options to help you decide which way you want to go :)

If your running a 63 engine, there should be no need to use a tacho module with the EVO cluster. What you need is to add a wire to your dash loom from the ECU (not sure what pin) to the tacho input on the cluster. From memory its in the brown plug.

That's what I need to know. :) now that wire I'm running off coil pack Coz it's a galant engine and that wire has the signal. Now I'm trying to find the tacho input pin on the back of the cluster. I've tried a few different ones to no avail. I think I tried pin 21 or 22. And 1 or 2 others that looked different to my standard cluster

Today is your lucky day..

Seeing i have a 4g63 in a CC shell at my disposal with no dash in it, i've traced out the tacho wiring for you.
Turns out i was wrong about it coming from the ECU

It gets its signal from the white wire at the Power Transistor.... (Pin 4(

Which then goes to the larger plug of dash loom in the passenger footwell.... (White wire- Pin 3)

From there it goes in the dash loom to the brown plug at the back of the cluster... (White wire - Pin 3).

I'll get some pics up when i get home.

So really since I'm running it off the coil pack I send it straight to pin 3 on brown plug. :) Do I need to run a ground or anything back from tacho

You can do that, but it should already be at the plug where the engine loom meets the dash loom..

IMO its better to do it as per factory for troubleshooting later on..
